One of my co-workers bought a house (a starter home in Marin, only $800K) just recently, and she was telling us at lunch that they bought some speakers, Bose speakers. I innocently asked why Bose, and it turns out that MIT students (and alumni; she's an MIT PhD) get a discount from Bose of 10% to 40% off. So MIT students overpay for Bose by only 90% to 60%! Hee hee.

I gently explained that Bose isn't all that highly regarded by audiophiles (i.e. people who have listened to other brands of speakers) and she was rather surprised, because, after all, Prof. Bose has a sound technical background (all MIT training) and taught at MIT for many years.

Yes, he taught Marketing.

A starter home for $800K. YIPES!!!! Makes me appreciate the housing market here in Houston even more.... almost as much as when I discovered the truth about Bose after discovering Axioms!!!! WOW...

One could buy 6 homes in this part of the country for that. And they wouldn't exactly be starter homes.

In this part of Florida it cost more than that to set-up a mattress under a freeway overpass!

It's probably better that I'm not living in Florida then. I hear it gets a little windy under those mattresses sometimes.
