I read the specs and reviews on M60Ti with great interest but unlike you folks in USA and Canada, I find great difficulty to locate an Axiom speaker, let alone, listen to a M60Ti for myself in Australia. In that aspect, I could be taking a punt based solely on feedback and reputation of the product should I decide to go ahead with my purchase.

I've been searching to replace my Kenwood front speakers for quite a while but have remained resilently patient. My current av receiver is NAD T761 and would like to listen to anyone who have the experience of combining a pair of M60Ti with a similar receiver.

Needless to say, I also fantasize what would it be like to have an Epic 60 set-up with a NAD T761. Any advise on this would also be appreciated.

danchu,
Saturn and I were recently conversing about the sound difference between Monitor Audio speakers and Axiom. We believe the Monitor Audio speakers have a clear, crisp, if not bright high end similar to Axioms. Listening to the Monitor Audio Silver series might give you an idea of the sound quality you MIGHT hear from Axiom speakers (hey both use a metal tweeter and both have aluminum based drivers). You should be able to find a dealer that sells Monitor Audio speakers with little difficulty (depending on your city size and number of specialty audio shops).

Ultimately though, your best bet would be to order a pair of the Axiom M2s (nice and small) to audition. For such a small speaker set, the return shipping price may not be as staggering as you think. The M2s should give you a good idea of the general signature sound of Axiom speakers. If you find the M2s to be too bright, then you certainly would not like the M22s, M60 or 80s.
If you are looking for a more recessed upper end, try ordering the M3s which are more comparable to Axiom's other models, the M40s and M50s.

I would ask Axiom how much it costs to ship the M60's to Australia. If it's a huge amount, buy something local, because then the quality/price ratio that makes Axiom so great would be diminished.

My impression of the Monitor Audio Silvers is, well, they have a typical Brits sound. I think there is a subtle but deliberately designed dip around 2-5kHz region, providing them the smooth "musicality." I personally liked them a lot. But to me the Axioms provides more immediate "presence" of the artists/instruments without going harsh or aggressive or too bright, which I really cherish.

And of course, we are comparing them at quite different $$$ ranges.

In agree with Chess and Sushi. As I had a chance to demo both. Both chess and Sushi hit nail on the bucket. The Monitor Silver series can also be a bit more forward that the Axioms but both really fall close to each other in detail and sound. The Silver S6 and S8 has an issue with the bass unless you like really heavy bass. It can be unruly at times. I think the porting design on the Axiom is a tad better. For some reason the Monitor Audio shine only when paired with high end high power amps with a room with lots of breathing room. Why I don't know but thats what I noticed. The M60 is easier to place and drive. Both are outstanding speakers but the $200-$400 price difference for equality great sounding speakers leaves the consumer to pay for the Axioms and use the extra money on better wires...ops I mean DVDs and CDs

chess,ravi,sushi and saturn,

Thanks for your help, mate. For someone who is literally flying blind, your replies certainly opened up other avenues.

Admittedly, before this, I have not even considered Monitor Audio Silver S8 but shall give it a try just to get a glimpse of what Axiom M60Ti is all about. However, would it be like driving a Mercedes to feel how is it like in a BMW or vise versa? Saturn's view on unruly bass from Monitor s8 is a concern 'cos I'm not into dominating bass at all. I'm sure my sub woofer will cover the low ends sufficiently. Music clarity without being overly bright would be my top prerequisite.

As with the Monitor Audio Silver S6 I though it was too much of an issue with my room size and acoustics that it went back to the shop after 6 months. Fortunately they took the full price back and I went for PMC DB1 & PMC TB2 center. As noted with Axiom products ... you will get close too or even better performance depending on your room size and acoustics...at HALF+ the price.

If you have a chance demo a DB1, TB2 or FB1 just for fun and put it against any Axiom
