Hi, All:

I am going to move into my new house at the end of this month. I am interested in setting up a home theater for new home. I am not familiar with HT, but had read a lot information on this forum and other website. Please give me your thoughts about my setup:

M60tis, VP100, QS8s and EP350 or HSU VTF 2-MK2. I attached my floor plan here. The house has 10-12FT ceiling. Here is the link for the image:

Hi, Randy:

I read your information. You have the VP150 instead of VP100. Do you think i need the VP150 for my living room. The kitchen and formal dining room are both open. What do you think about the EP350 compared to HSU sub?

I've never heard the VP100 or the HSU subs. I know a lot of people around here love the VP100. I'm sure you've read the specs on both. The 100 has two woofers and one tweeter, and the 150 has 3 woofers and 2 tweeters. I like the 150 as the tweeters are on each end which helps give it a bigger sound stage. Another thing is that it is good to try to have the tweeters for you main speakers and center as close as possible to the same height. Are you planning on putting the center above or below on a stand? Maybe someone else will help out on advice, that is a fairly big room.

One possible concern I see is the location of the Qs8's. Normally you want the surrounds to be to the left/right of the listeners, and then if you have 7.1 the rears would be behind you. Also, you want a little distance from where your sitting to the speakers, it looks like they would be right above the couch?

Hi, I foregot to tell you that i plan to buy Yamaha RX-V1500 or 2500 reciever for the HT. Any thoughts? I have read some negative comments about the Yamaha reciever. They are certified reciever.

Thanks, Randy. I will set the QS8s on the side of live room if that's the case. My plan is to purchase the M60 and VP100 first, then QS8s and Sub.

The Qs8's are very forgiving, meaning that you can place them about anywhere and get great results, you just don't want them right above your head. If you can space them out a little, either behind or to the sides or side/back corners they will work. Are you planning on pre-running the wires in the walls/ceiling?

The Yamaha's will be just fine and sound great, the only problem a few have had is when matched with the M80ti's which are 4 ohm speakers.

Looking at your floor plan, the qs8's behind you should work fine.

I'd also think about the VP150.

Lastly the sub. I own and love my Hsu VTF-2, but at the same time, I'd like to get something bigger, and beefier some time. You may get that itch too. If you can afford it, scratch the itch now. Look into the VTF-3 from Hsu or even the EP500 from Axiom.

One concern for me is that i have wood floor in my living room. I don't know how to avoid the reflection?

Hardwood floors were a concern of mine as well. I just moved into a new house with hardwood floors, and I was worried about whether they'd wreak havoc with the sound. But there's an area rug around my main listening position, and the furniture helps as well. Turns out my system has never sounded better.
