Last week my wife and I drove down to Pennsylvania from Toronto for our 19th Anniversary (7 hour drive). We visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s FallingWater. If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area, do not miss the opportunity to see this amazing work of architecture.

We made a little detour on the way to pickup an SVS PB10 from their Ohio factory.
What an amazing sub! This little baby will tie me over until I save up for an EP500/600.

I can't speak for the sub, but my wife and I have been to Falling Water several times. It is a beautiful work for sure. We were tempted to go white water rafting on the Yugi river at Ohiopyle on the return drive, but we chicken'd out!

I'd be interested to hear your impressions of the PB10.

How is the PB-10 doing in your setup. It is a very well regarded sub. Dont forget to look into the PB-12 Ultra, it has got rave reviews too. I am currently saving up for that one.

You'll love that sub. I just sold mine and upgraded to a PB12. I am pumped up waiting to get it and see and feel what it will do. The 10 worked great but with my 60s and 150, I just wanted a bit more punch with movies. Can't afford or justify a 500 so the PB12 won. Either way, we win so sit back and enjoy!!!

Got the SVS PB10 home on Sunday.

I was surprised how big the enclosure was.
It is pretty heavy at 60 lbs.
The fit and finish is excellent.
Impressed with the front grill mounting hardware being steel pins instead of plastic.

I hooked up the sub and set the gain to 3/4 and did some initial listening to regular TV, Radio, and a few CD at low volumes. Sounded great.

Much better than the POS Radioshack/Centrios 8" passive sub that I had.

I put in Pink Floyd's DSOTM and turned the volume way up.
The heartbeats at the beginning of "Speak to Me" pressured the room at first, but as they got louder the sub was bottoming out! Stopped the demo right away.

Got out the Finding Nemo DVD, and ran through the THX setup thing.
I was amazed as the sub played right to 20Hz no problem.
Never heard or felt bass that low!

When I picked up the sub, I also got an Avia setup disk.
I spent some time calibrating everything with a sound level meter.
Had to throttle the sub back to about 1/3.
Also throttled the SW level on the reciever from +10 db to 0 db.
Also found that I had the loudness feature set on my reciever. Turning it off made a big difference.

Retried the DSOTM demo, and the heartbeats peaked at almost 100db with no distortion.
Amazing!

Spent the rest of the day trying various stuff that I consider my reference material:

Fresh Air
Klattu
1812 Overature (got 102db on the cannon shots)
Roger Waters
Rob Zombie

and some movies:

Pirates of the Carribean
Monsters Inc
Star War I
Finding Nemo
Jurasic Park

I found I like to turn sub's gain up to 2/3 for movies.
What a diffence the PB10 has made.
Its amazing how much air it moves; it shakes the entire room.
I had been missing so much with my old sub.

My wife used to complain that the old sub was anonying when listening to movies, or regular TV. She says its loud, but not annoying.

I also picked up a port plug from SVS to try the PB10 sealed.
I found this improved music listening for material like Sting's "Moon over Bourbon Street" and Diana Krall's "Girl in the Other Room".
Joe from SVS warned me not to crank it for too long with the plug in, and sub was designed to use the air movement for cooling the amp.

I have my system in the living room (12x16x8 or 1500 ft3).
In the past year we have been putting an addition on our house.
The home theatre room will 24x36x9 with cathedral ceilings (8000+ ft3).
We are just finishing the drywall.
When the system gets moved into this room, I will see how the PB10 does.
I suspect another PB10 or an EP500/600 will be required.

I would recommend the PB10 to anyone.

sorry to revive such an old thread, but it pertains..

i have been building an HT system for a buddy of mine. he already has M22's, and a VP100. the onkyo 702 just arrived last week, the QS4's from factory outlet should be here the 2nd week of january.. and the PB-10 should be here by the end of this week.

the room he is putting it in is smaller than yours, and has hardwood floors. so, i am curious as to how it will sound in there.. i have warned him that an area rug might be in his near future. we should hopefully have it all set up by the time the QS4's arrive, and we can just pop them on the wall, and it should be rocking.

before he moved in the house, he had speaker wire pre-run, and wire terminals installed in the wall. so its gonna be dang near plug-and-go. pretty smart..

i will post pics in time.
