Looking at a pair of 2 year old used Axiom QS8 surround speakers. I was going to pay $355 + $20 shipping = $375. Is this a fair price. The speakers have a small mark on a corner, but nothing serious. They are otherwise in good shape cosmetically and sound wise.
Is $375 a fair price?
thanx

For 125 bucks more you can have a brand new, full factory warranted pair. That seems like the best deal to me.
BTW, normally this particular board isn't a place where used Axiom speaker prices are discussed ... due to this being *the* Axiom manufacturers site.

If you look at the factory outlet price they are only $450 U.S. a pair. To me the F/O would be the way to go, at least this way you get the 5 year warranty.

Just curious, are the warranties tranferable?

Well, asking about what to pay for used speakers from the same manufacturer is kinda not really a conflict. I am sure Axiom is aware that people who buy Axiom speakers often sell their Axioms later on. Axiom owners change their systems around and upgrade from time to time, and they don't all trade them in or throw them away, they must sell them? I totallly understand not talking about pricing regarding competitors and other retailers etc, but anyways... the warranty is not transferable, so that is a turn off.
I suppose I must research the cost for replacement drivers for this pair of surrounds and weigh the odds.
thanx for the feedback,

Hey Morky's (alias CPC) Will you have the option of listening to these Qs8's? Most likely they will be fine. In my opinion the Axiom quadpolar design is like no other surround I've ever heard, especially since all drivers are firing in phase.
Anyway, you could always sell them to Jinx (Pure Evil) if you don't like them, he'll even give you more than you paid most likely. ha ha
I've got 4 of them and I would not change them out for the world. I would not worry to much about the warranty. This is the norm for most speaker manufaturers.

Well, I think its not a bad gamble. I have rear surrounds right now with 2 drivers each, and I don't have the rear surround volume set too high anyways. I want a nice surround effect, for sure, but not a distracting one. So keeping the volume reasonable, and the fact that the speakers have 4 drivers each vs 2 each leaves me with a little more headroom before I need to worry about blowing drivers.
I think I may go ahead.
I am having the surrounds shipped to me, so I cannot hear them first. I have heard a friends setup with either QS4's or QS8's (cannot remember which) and I LOVED how it sounded. Of course, he had a larger room and much more space behind the listeners than I do now, but I will not be having my home theatre in this small room forever, so...for now, perhaps I will hear a slightly bigger more spacious sound, and then later, if I move the setup into a larger room, it will sound even better. Plus the QS8's are not bigger, and are actually a tiny bit slimmer in terms of "sticking" out from the wall area.
wish me luck
thanx
