Perhaps I demonstrated a lack of patience.
Kerry would be a very poor choice as the Democratic candidate. He couldn't beat Bush despite having every advantage in the world (glibness in the debates, media backing, unpopular war, etc...). What chance would he have against someone like McCain?
Assuming the country is ready for a female pres, Hillary would have a better chance of winning tahn Kerry. I'm guessing the country is not ready for a female pres, despite Hollywood's best efforts vis-a-vis that dumb TV show.
Bill Richardson is their only shot, IMO. But he ain't a communist so...

See, it was almost a rational, well thought out post. Until the commie bit. Can we have a political discussion without insults and wild exaggeration (from all sides)? Judging from this thread and the past, I don't think so.
Besides, your arguments against Kerry could also apply to McCain, who I hope will run again. And I do happen to agree with your initial premise, sans name calling.

I reckon the name calling (like calling a Senator a scumbag - or a President a liar, tyrant, evil dictator, etc...) is not appropriate or enlightening. It never seems to be an issue nowadays, though. I believe we just chock it up to partisanship - the country is deeply divided, y'know.

I'm only in my thirties, but I don't remember every seeing the country so divided over politics. I would like to see Democratic and Republican politicians do a better job of working together.
The relationship that George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton have developed as they raised money for disaster relief has been awe inspiring. Together, they have achieved great things, probably more than they would have acheived alone.
Granted, raising money for the tsunami and hurricane relief is a cause that both parties can agree on (unlike the War in Iraq). However, the fact that both are working together, while putting aside there political differences and bitter feelings from their election, makes me hopeful that maybe the US government can work in a similar fashion.

We tend to forget how volatile things have been in the past. For example, That little skirmish in the 1860's was pretty ugly. The 60's were no picnic.
As a conservative, I watched Bill Clinton get elected in 1992. The economy grew. Things were good.
George Bush gets elected in 2000.
The economy is growing. Things are good.
Axiom now makes world class subwoofers.
Things are good.
