I have a down-firing subwoofer and I'm thinking of replacing it with the EP500 subwoofer. I'm wary, however, because I'm afraid the sound will emanate toward only 1 direction. Can anyone say if this is true or if, similar to a downfiring subwoofer, the sound is NOT localized?
Thanks.

You don't need to post in multiple places. Pretty much all of us read all the boards.
And no, you don't need to worry about front firing being localizeable.

Subs are non-directional, unless you have your crossover set to high.

To clarify: "too high." Don't want the guy looking for a crossover setting of "high."

I noticed with my front firing sub that the bass sounds so much better when standing above the sub. At seating level the sub is quiet? What's with that?

Different position in the room. Your seating is probably in a null.

Yep... remember that room modes (reinforcement from standing waves) happen in all three dimensions. A few people have reported success from lifting the sub up in order to avoid having a null at the listener's height, although usually you can get good enough results by moving the sub around on the floor.
The main point is that sitting in the center of the room (in any direction) is generally a Bad Thing if your sub is in the corner.

I was thinking about trying the crawl method.

You should try it in relation to your sub positioning as well.
