Sushi's link didn't work on my browser. How did the Denon 2802 do? I have been concerned with clipping in Dolby Digital mode while watching movies. In direct and stereo modes it has plenty of headroom (according to the volume knobs scale). I have tried not to exceed -10 on Denons volume scale. Does ANYONE have any idea at what point that receiver will produce undue levels of distortion? At -10 it sounds perfectly clear and distortion free - dare I go higher?

74x5, 61x6. Claimed is 91x6. Noise and distortion appear to be fine, if I'm reading it right. .04% THD+N, -73.3 noise. Whatever that means.

Mark, the figures Ken gives are the ones shown for the 2802, but I suggest that you pay little attention to any of this. Tests involving driving all channels simultaneously at maximum power for an extended period have little relevance in the real world. Your 2802 has plenty of power.

I've pretty much maxed my Denon 1803 a handful of times. Sounds pretty good if you ask me. Same volume scale (goes up to +10 or +12 or something I think). You should be fine.

BillWill.. My 'practical wiring' hero.. Who needs all that fancy stuff, when you have left over Malabu lighting laying around, right ?
Hey, my Denon is a little bigger, but from what I have read and heard about them, and my own experiances so far, you have no need to worry.. I've pushed mine hard many times with no signs of stress.. They are built to take it..
Listening to music, with all 7 spkrs cranked to plus reference figures, the fan will come on.. No breaking up, no clipping, no thermal shut down.. Just big, clean beautiful (thank you Axiom) sound !
I realize I don't use a lot of scientific terminology in my reasoning, but hey, I guess I just speak for the common man ? Although my wife would say, "Mikey !? Common sense ??" hahahah...

Maybe I'll crank it up a little more. At -10 during "Die Another Day", the wife got up and watched from the kitchen because it was too loud. But not all movies are so loud, particularly ones mastered in 2 channel stereo and then viewed with DPL II. Not that I don't trust you guys, but I think I'll email Alan to make sure it's OK to go up to "0".

Now that's what I like to hear.. An understanding wife.. She just steps back out of the kill-zone, and leaves you to it..
My wife does the same thing.. We have a 6 ft wide opening between the theater room and the larger family room.. She will sit near that opening and work on her ceramic repair..
It's cool though, as she never tells me to turn it down
Well, she did once.. About 11:30 PM, LOTR's, Cave Troll scene, and she was trying to sleep.. She was in the main house !!! And I had all the doors n windows closed out back !! Gotta love those Axioms.. (And, our loving wifes..)

My wife, not surprisingly, sometimes complains that it's too loud when she is not watching the movie or listening to the music with me. But once she starts to watch it with me, no complaints at all at whatever sound levels I am comfortable with (usually at -10 to -8 dB; MCACC calibrated).
