I'm looking at the 4600 which I can get for $999 Canadian brand new. Can anyone suggest another receiver in this price class that may be better?

I will not be able to take advantage of the HDMI (for awhile) and I'm currently running M60's VP150 QS8's and HSU VTF3

Thanks a ton

Get it and be happy! It's a great receiver.

Only other one I would suggest you look at is the HK635. Both should work well for you regardless of what your running in the way of speakers.

The 4600 would be excellent, but that price seems to be a bit too good, so beware

Thanks for the replies.

The store is located not too far from me and reputable, 75th anniversary sale (East Hamilton Radio). They bought the last 4600's from Yamaha as they are discontinued. From what I've found out the 4600 was an interim model or something. The new 1600 & 2600 overlap too much from what I've seen and also provide the hdmi upconverting I believe.

The 4600 is priced a few hundred less than the 2600 now so I guess it depends on what people are after. Audioholics took the 2500 & 4600 apart and the 4600 is supposed to have a few better parts?

Another store near me carries the 1500, 2500 & 2600 and while I was there the Yamaha Rep was in. The sales guy I've dealt with a few times spoke with him about the deal and he said he could not do anything. The other store worked out their deal taking the last 40 4600's....

The only model this sales guy was suggesting as a possibilty was the Pioneer Elite 54 or 72? (Not sure) But it would be $300-$500 more. He said to go for the Yammy.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up buying the 4600 last week and still have some adjustments to make but it is awesome!

The HD Radio feature is not on the Canadian model as our format will be different apparently...however some people claim to be able to recieve some of the broadcasts depending where you live. I'm not far from Buffalo and should be able to pick some up.

Does anyone know if there's a software upgrade to get my Canadian model to accept the HD Radio signal?
