Let me explain my situation: I recently purchased the M60/500 7.1 set up with a Yamaha V2600 reciever. I hooked up my Ps2 to the Yamaha with component cables and the reciever is outputing thru HDMI. My problem is -- I can play PS2 games just fine but PS games dont show any picture. I can hear the game working, and sometimes even the "new game" screen shows, but if I try playing the game it just goes black. I've tried nearly all my PS games and none of them work. I tried turning off the upconversion on the reciever but this doesn't work. I also tried switching the PS2 output to 4:3 but that doesn't work either.

I tried posting this in the Advice section but nobody responded so I'm hoping I can get a bit more feedback on this busier section.

drew88, have you tried just using analog cables from the ps2 directly to your TV. If it works that way, then you'll know somewhere between the receiver and the TV that something is wrong.

I've used the component cables directly into the TV and it works fine. But the thing thats puzzling me is the fact that my PS2 games work fine inputing into either the TV or the reciever but my PS games, using the PS2, only work for brief instances on the new game screens and such before going black. So I'm confident there isn't a problem with the connection. My only guess is that the PS games won't work with the HDMI output that the reciever has outputing to the TV. I'm not an expert on these things and I figure that I'm probably wrong. But nobody has offered any opinions on this, including the Yamaha help center, who are, if I may say, a bunch of rude A-holes.

My initial thoughts were that the problem may have been from running the ps games through HDMI, possibly the problem stems through something like copyright protection, or some other incompatability. I would just run the video for the games directly to the TV and run the audio through the receiver.

I'm guessing that for whatever reason the HDMI is not liking a 480i signal. PS2 games are being output at 480p, right? And PS games output at 480i? It doesn't make sense that it wouldn't be able to transport that signal intact, but I would guess that that's the cause of the issue.

I'm pretty sure that most PS2 games run at 480i. Some at 480p, and very very few at 1080i.

PS1 games likely run at a lower resolution than 480i-and the AVR probably doesn't know how to convert that signal into anything.
