I am about to purchase a sub for my HT. My room dimensions are 14' x 20' x 8' ceiling. I know that optimum sub placement can vary for every room layout, so my question...
How long is too long for a subwoofer cable? If I place the sub next to the tv, no problem...I can buy something around 10' and it will reach.
I may want to set the sub next to my seating area which is about 15' from the tv and a/v rack. If this is the case, I would like to run the cable up through the wall, across my ceiling, and back down the rear wall to punch out next to my sofa.
That would result in approximately 50' +/- of subwoofer cabling. Is this even possible to purchase at a reasonable price and, if so, where? Will that length negatively affect the performance of the sub?
Any thoughts or advice?

for a 50ft cable digital coaxial look no further than Monoprice.com 50 ft high quality 24k gold plated fancy connectors CL2 (in wall) rated $11.39. I would advise ordering this cable, running it in the wall and order a smaller (6 ft) cable. This way you can see where you like your sub the best...and if you like it in the front of the room, no big loss, only 11.39 for the 50 ft cable.

There is no problem with 50 feet or more if you use a good quality cable. Robb has given great advice, and the cable suggested will work very nice.

I’ve used a 30’ cable from Axiom and now I’m using a 40’ cable from Blue Jeans cables. They both work just dandy.
But now I am thinking about terminating cable at the wall J-boxes and then using shorter cables from J-box to the sub. Has anyone done that before? I was a little leery about splicing / terminating Coax sub cables. Are they the same as RG6 or similar Coax??

You could stuff the excess cable into the wall, and get a coupler type wall plate, no splicing would be needed.

Thanks for the information. I have the same question...it appears that the cable from monoprice is something that I might pick up from Home Depot, minus the connections. Is it just standard RG6 coaxial cable because it looks just like the stuff running from my cable outlet to my DirecTV receiver. If that is the case, I would like to have nice and clean connections through my walls with a cable tv type wall plate at each place that it comes out of the wall. Just as mdrew said, however, is it O.K. to splice that type of connection? In my case, I would go from the receiver to a wall, splice, go up the wall and over the ceiling down the rear wall, splice, and then connect to the sub. Does that make any sense?

I am not sure about splicing, I'll let someone else answer that question. But for simplicities sake, you can order 2 wall plates for keystone entries for $1.00 each: and 2 RCA Modular connector keystone inserts ($0.98) I am not sure what modular is...But I think this is the one.: And you'll have a really easy install for only $4 more.

Modular - having to do with modules... ie: you can fill the little square holey-thingy with an F-connector, RJ-11, RJ-45, binding posts, or whatever modules you need.

I guess that's what I'm getting at. I would go from the receiver to the first wall plate, cut the cable and put an RCA connector on it and connect it to the wall plate.
Next, go into the wall and connect more cable to the backside of the first wall plate and run that up and over my ceiling and down the rear wall. There, I would connect to the back of that wall plate in the wall.
Finally, connect with an RCA connector from the sub to the second wall plate.
Voila!, enjoy the fruits of my labor!
I guess the word splice probably was not the correct term for what I was thinking.
