I've been doing a fair amount of research as I plan to replace my Bose Acoustimass 10 & Velodyne 10" Sub driven through a Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS. My room is a living room/dining room combo with hardwood floors measuring around 2400 Cu.Ft. (12x24x8). Prime listening position is about 9' from centre speaker with the surrounds along the back dining room wall, about 15' behind prime listening position. I'm considering M60, VP150 and QS8.

Sub Questions
- I'm considering either the EP350 or EP500. The EP500 is a lot more money and I'd like to better understand the incremental benefit and value of going that way?
- Is there any case to be built to keep the Velodyne Sub as a 2nd sub in this type of configuration?

Bi-Wiring Question
- Is there an incremental benefit to bi-wiring the M60s? I've never done Bi-Wiring before and don't yet understand the benefits for doing this.

Thanks for your time. I've found this board to be very informative as a lurker.

Cheers,
Spice

Spice, welcome, you former lurker. First, the easy one: there's no benefit whatever to bi-wiring(aka buy-wiring)and it's electrically essentially identical to single wiring. The dividing point is simply moved back from just inside the speaker terminals to just outside the receiver terminals, which makes no significant difference.

Note that the surround speakers in a 5.1 setup are side, not back surrounds, and should be positioned only a little(maybe 2')farther back than directly to the side.

The sub question may not be as clearcut. There are a few who've made a 350-500 change and are convinced that it was money well-spent, but now it's your money.

what is the model of your existing velodyne 10" sub?

if you are getting the EP500, there is no need to keep the old sub (unless that's a digital drive or SPL model) keeping the crappier sub will only mess up the overall performance of both subs.

Did the Calgarians all just find out about Axiom recently?

There's been a real influx of you guys lately.

Everyone just got rich the last year off the Oil Industry and the housing market...

Must be the explanation.

Who got rich? Certainly wasn't me! It just costs more to live here now. 5% inflation compared to or northern counterparts in Edmonton at about 3% and the rest of the country at less than 2% the last I heard.
