Well I've made my choice and need your opinion if I am going too big. I am a firm believer that if you buy quality, you buy once. Currently running 25 year old NAD equipment and it still sounds good. Enough of that. Here's the scoop. Tax return, and more importantly my wife, has given permission to buy the EPIC 60-500 package. I was leaning towards an SVS sub but all I have read states the EP500 is as good for the same money. Little off track there. Question - my room is 12' x 15' x 8' high (1440 sq. ft.). Is this system too big for my room. Oh, I'm driving with the new Outlaw 1070. Please be honest. If this system is overkill, suggest what would be a good fit.

Certainly not overkill and you also have a big enough system should you move and have a larger room. You will love that system. M80's and EP600 would be overkill.

On a serious note I think you have picked out a great system for your size room.

Doesn't sound like overkill at all, but it can depend on how your room is laid out. If you can get the M60s at least 6" away from the wall, have them at least 6' apart (preferably 8 or more) without being right next to the side walls, and sit at least 8' away, then you've got nothing to worry about. Even if you can't arrange them in this semi-deal layout, they will sound excellent. And if you ever move into a house with a bigger room for them, they'll work much better than something smaller.

Welcome Scott,

I think you've picked out a good system, just get the right finish to satisfy your wife. Could you go smaller, sure, m22's with a good sub are a great combination. A lot depends on how you intend to use the speakers. If you like to crank it up from time to time, you may want to go with the larger full range speakers.

You would hate to get a case of "upgradeitis" as most of us have.

I just upgraded from m60's to m80's and a ep500 to ep600 recently. Keep in mind my room is 900 Sq Ft or 8100 Cu Ft. Your room is actually 180 Sq Ft and 1440 Cu Ft. The 60's are one killer speaker, I just have a lot more space to fill.

Scott, we gave you essentially the same(honest)opinions two years ago. Suck it up and full speed ahead.

No complaints about that...

Wait, the sub's too big, send it to me instead... but keep the rest.

My room is roughly the size of yours and I use M22's and an EP350. I wouldn't go much bigger with the 22's as far as room size and I occasionally think about upgrading to the 60's. I'm sure you won't regret gong the M60 route. The EP500 will have more than enough boom for your room. My 350 handles my room with power to spare. The 500 will go lower than the 350. I've seen nothing but good posts about the 500 from owners on this forum, after they get it placed and calibrated correctly.

Scott, how will you be primarily using this room? If you prefer 2 channel stereo music (no sub), go for the M-60 floorstanders. However if you plan on mostly watching 5.1 movies and music with sub, 5.1 channel SACD and DVD-A, I think the m22 would be a better fit for you.

I have a 15x25x7 room with M22, sit about 10 feet away and the music is more than loud enough, especially with the EP500, which is a beast. And I do listen to music and movies LOUD

I usually do not listen to music in 2 channel mode, I have tweaked the sub to blend seamlessly with the mains.
