HDMI v1.3 for supporting Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD MA with HD-DVD / Bluray ? In a word... overrated. At least from Mike and I's previous research. I don't know if we want to start that again?

A link would be great! Not that I am lazy to do my own research, I have done it already, but I love to read others' findings. Please.

Thank you for the link John, I appreciate it. Very informative.
Unfortunately, I can only do 5.1 right as the sitting sofa is directly against the back wall. Does it mean that I can't really take full advantage of future advanced audio formats available through HDMI? Coming to my direct question, should I just buy a receiver with no HDMI or simply HDMI switch right away since I am not using anything above 5.1 anyway?

With HDMI, you get to enjoy Lossless (or uncompressed) multi channel audio formats sent via PCM (digitally) that you can only get otherwise with analogue.
There simply is no comparison to the sound quality this provides over digital and coax because they are limited to bandwidth that HDMI is not. And even with 6/8 channel analogue, you do not get to take advantage of digital EQ’s or bass management.
With 5.1 HDMI, you still get awesome 5.1 uncompressed audio. The 5/1 or 7/1 argument is meaningless in this regards.
