on the back of the EP500 is a master volume (plus a bunch of other switches). What does everyone usually put this volume up too (half way, quarter way etc.).

My basement is basically 1000 sq feet, but the viewing/listening area is about 13 feet by 28 feet.

I dare not go past half way.........or dare I.

Recommendations?

If you follow the pamphlet that came with your sub, it states to start "midway of 9 o'clock", which is about 6-7 o'clock, very low. Keep in mind, no matter what setting you have this volume knob at, your still getting ALL 500 watts of power. When you calibrate your speakers, you will then adjust the sub dB's on the receiver to get your desired SPL reading, usually 75dB.

With my EP600 around 6-7 o'clock, my Denon AVR has my sub level at 0dB, a very good position.

Crossover on bypass, since your using your AVR to control the crossover.

Trim on Flat for most situations, however, your room may do better on Half or Full.

I knew someone would use the o'clock system. That would assume all EP500 have their zero set at the same position. Axiom has told me they are not. My zero is at 4 o'clock, therefore my half way is at 9 o'clock. If you are gonna use the o'clock system let me know your where your zero setting is on the o'clock system

All EP500's and 600's zero positions are at 4 o'clock which is the min setting on the volume knob, this has never changed.

I just kept my reciever at 0db, and turned the knob on the back until it was calibrated for 75db. Have no clue what the sub is at, From my previous setting, I am assuming its around 6-7 oclock.

That is a great way to setup your sub Hut, in fact, that last time I messed with things I did the same thing.

It was a little hot 2 days ago, I calibrated the SPL meter so that the "lowest" point was 75db (spl meter jumps when the sub is on).

I re-did it so that 75db is now the "highest" reading on the spl meter (72db being the lowest) and I like the bass response MUCH better, its more punchy and less bloated.

It really is true that if the sub is too hot, it bass doesn't sound as good.
