The bug is biting right now for new HT equipment!
I thought about a new prepro but can't complain about the Denon 3805. Alan at Axiom and Gene at Audioholics have both advised me that for HT the Denon is a great prepro. "It would be difficult for me to hear any change in sound quality by changing to a newer prepro in that price class.", or words to that effect.
Any thoughts?

Hey Doug: How about a Squeezebox-type device to help you rediscover your music collection? Then you could let me know how you like it!

I'm like you Doug, I have the Denon 3805 that I'm pretty happy with, but since I've ventured into HD DVD and Blu-ray I find myself needing to upgrade to a receiver with HDMI. Have you considered a HD DVD or a Blu-ray player, thats a step up for video.

Can't say that I listen to music enough for a Squeezebox. My ipod only has audiobooks on it.
Like the new look - more realistic!

My SXRD is only 1080i input so I haven't ventured into HD DVD yet.

My Toshiba is only 720p but the HD DVD's Imo are truly a large step up from standard DVD's.

Same with my projector...720P. No comparison though. HD/BR is vastly superior to SD even with 720P.
Be careful if you decide to step into HD. You're goign to get very wet, quickly, as well as broke. It'll start with a machine, then two machines so you can enjoy both formats, then the new HDMI receiver to get lossless sound, then the video processor, then the new 1080P TV, then you'll want to swap out your SD dvd collection with HD / BR.
Oh, then when 1.3 with deep color, lip sync and DTS-M / DD-HD become readily available, you'll want to swap out all your 1.1 stuff for 1.3.
.....you better just stay away.

I have been trying to stay away from HD/BR until the dust settles!
Maybe an SMS-1!

Speaking of the SMS-1. I can't get to the Outlaw forum. Anybody else?

Doug, the "dust" is not never going to settle for High Def discs in the near future. I really suggest you jump in, you'll spend less than USD 500 for a player and probably nothing (rental from Netflix) for software. I could not resist, and I am happy I didn't.
I also have a second idea/suggestion for you to spend your money: if you have a second media room, or simply living room or bedroom for that matter, why don't you build a new stereo system with separates? What do you think? This with assuming that you like music and own many CDs.
