It has been a decade or more since I hooked up a turntable. I inherited this phono. The grease had dried up in it so I took it apart cleaned and lubed everything. Then bought the best needle I could afford which was a middle of the line Grado. Today I finally hooked it up. What fun to have. Here are a couple pictures of course.

Love the wood on that one. How many LPs do you have? But more importantly, how does it sound?

I have a closet full of LP's ! It sounds pretty good. Once I listened to a couple songs and got used to the sound I enjoyed it. Of course I have been spoiled by digital music but it is fun to flip through albums and listen to white rabbit or a number of other songs that had been long forgotten. Than look at the album sleeve while listening. Get back up pull it off and listen to another. It is very interactive. Just a window into the past to listen and remember. It has been so many years. Come to think of it I think maybe the last time was uhmmmm 1983 or so. Something fun to play with for awhile.

Looks great

Any chance you can pull your mains out a bit, you'll get much better bass response if you let the rear ports breath a little?

no no no, you've got it all backwards, Your supposed to have a record player, and when you finally get a cd player, say that you've been spolied by vinyl

I have a decent record player from back in the day, A Sansui Sr-838, and the bottom of the line grado black. And while when i had heard vinyl on it for the first time ever i was surprised how good it sounded considering i was expecting all kinds of noise. (new record helped), I havent been able to make it sound better than a cd. Although many will tell you that it can be done. perhaps with a price though. I would really like to hear a high end vinyl system and see what it can do.

you are the second person to say that They are actually about 6 inches from the wall. I think the picture is deceiving.

I definetly can remember all the debate when CD's first came out. If I remember it was a loss of warmth or something of that nature. I don't think that really panned out. Although I suppose with a very high end turntable and a record in perfect condition I suppose itn could sound nice.

This makes me want to get out my "time machine" too.

I was wondering.......do you have a LP and cd of the same album?
If you do, and have a chance, play them at the same time (a-b)......let me know if one sounds better to you, than the other.
I have found (minus the clicks, and pops) that when I listen carefully, analog sounds more "warm" and "full" than digital, to me.

I am always curious what others hear when comparing, and would like to see what you think.

I am by no means an audiophile, but there is indeed a certain enjoyable warmth to the analog recordings I made 20 years ago on my Nakamichi CR-7A tape deck. Perhaps there is something to the saying that "digital is mathematics, but analog is music." I am glad you decided to resurrect your Yamaha turntable.

Thats a good idea. I do have some CD/album matches. I will give it a shot. What I am missing right now is a record cleaner. Until I have that I think the sound will have to many clicks and pops
