Hey just wondering if any one has been running this combo? Plan on running 80's, qs8's and the 150 center. Talked to onkyo said it would be fine. Want to hear what you guys have to say. Is it possible, is there anyone that actually runs this combo succesfully? I really dont want to buy HK. Thanks

Denon, HK, NAD, and many seperates have no problems with m80's. For the most part any decent solid state AVR will be able to drive the efficient 80's as they are a very stable 4 ohm design. The question is to what level (loudness) you will be achieving before the receiver goes into protect mode.
In the past, Alan from Axiom has hinted that Onkyo's have had issues, this may not be true for the newer models coming out.
My Denon 2805 has no issues. Maybe some others will chime in with some feedback for you. good luck.

What is the volume of your room and how far away from the fronts will you be sitting?

will be sitting about 13 feet away from the fronts. Volume of the room?? Not sure what you mean. Watch movies at moderate levels, listen to music at about the same. But do like to crank it up every once and awhile.

I run an Onkyo 797 and have used it with 4 ohm speakers (KEFs) before. The M80s present a rather light 4 ohm load compared to some, but i cannot vouch for the capabilities of that particular receiver with a 4 ohm load. It should be find for most reasonable sound levels. Worst case scenario, you could always take the receiver back (assuming you do not already own it).

I hear Onkyo is great, but iffy with low impedance speakers. Especially since the M80's, QS8's and VP150 represent 4, 6 and 6 ohm loads, that might cause overheating / current limiting.
If I were you, I'd get a Denon, HK or Sherwood Newcastle, as they all drive low impedance without issue.

You have not mentioned the size of your room on this thread or on AVS. Volume, not in terms of loudness, in terms of your dimensions.

I've been using an Onkyo 801 in a 3600 c.f. space. It does get warm but never hot and never has it shutdown due to heat. I did find that filling 3600 cubic feet was a chore at higher levels so I added a sperate amp and I'm using the 801 as a pre/pro.
