I had a pair of M50s, with a pair of 6.5" drivers. Very nice but lacking the detail of the M22 with its twin 5.25" drivers. The M22s, on the other hand, lack some of the bottom end of the M50s.
Seems to me that a speaker with a single 6.5" driver and a single 5.25" driver might just make up the difference, sort of like a mini-M60.
Has Axiom ever fooled around with a speaker with this arrangement of drivers? How did it sound?

Very weird no responses to this...I was hoping to hear a few people's opinions. Sounds like a logical idea to me.

Sounded good to me too. I'd consider getting a pair. Probably could use the M40 cabinet. I'll bet they'd sound terrific.

you can never tell how a speaker would sound just by swapping drivers of different sizes. There's far more to consider, engineering-wise. Not that I know what those things are, but Ian would.
I'm pretty sure he has tried many, many combinations of drivers before. I doubt he's reading this smacking his forehead saying 'fiddle sticks! I should have thought of this before!'

Waaaay back in the day, Ian used to post here quite often (some of you newcomers, who call themselvs "addicts" (pmbuko), may not remember) but he stopped posting. Then he hired a "resident expert" to pick up the slack, I forget his name because he has not posted in ians (oops, I mean eons) either. But I digress.
Anyway, waaaaay back when Ian used to post on these here very forums, I think I remember him using the term "fiddlesticks".
Ian, where are you? Your loyal subjects await your return.
