What are the recommended crossover points for the M^0's and The HSU VTF-2 III. My surrounds and center are set to 80. I have the option of going from 40 on up in 20 hz increments. Also, for my SACD player's audio analog inputs it has the option of setting the speakers to large or small but no specific crossover points. What would your recommendations be to start. Thanks in advance

Start out from 40 and work your way up, listening to each as you go. Most around here use 80 as the standard crossover. Do you have an Avia disk, or any other set-up disk that will perform a frequency sweep? That way you can tell if there is any gap between the speaker and sub.

80 is a good starting point and trust your ears from there. Try the M60s at 60 and 40 and see how you like it, then go with the setting you prefer.

I recommend you start by setting to small with a cross-over of 80Hz in the receiver. You can then tweak from there. I have my 80s set to 80Hz for movies and 60Hz for most music. And if you have a direct vs. stereo mode in your pre/pro, direct sends the bass to your 60s as well whereas stereo does not. So you can experiment with that too.
Along with my 600, I presently have the STF-3 until tomorrow morning. I've noticed that I can get the Hsu to sound much tighter when I set the cross-over to the same setting as the receiver (which is actually very surprising to me). So you can also experiment with that.

Tex, you can also plug one port on the STF 3 and lower the tuning point. They say it is like having an overdamped system when played this way, much like a sealed sub.

I also use small for everything and 80hz crossover on the receiver. Remember to bypass the subs crossover knob to let the receiver manage the bass.

Al didn't have any corks to stuff it with. Jason, we'll have to go through your wardrobe (or your wife's) to find something to stuff the ports with .

Mo, it could be that you're not hearing a "tighter" sub, but simply that because of the double filtering you're hearing less of it around the crossover frequencies and relatively more of the mains.

Yes, I think you're right. I'm not hearing a tighter sub. I'm hearing tighter bass.

I go back and forth using 60 and 80. I like 60 for music and 80 for movies.
