So I received my speakers (M22ti, VP150, QS8s) and I've only set up the M22ti. All I can say is WOW!!!!!

I've read a few threads that recommend I break-in the speakers for ~40 hours. What decibal level should I set my HK AVR 525 to? I live in an apartment in NYC and don't want to disturb the neighbors too much.

HSU sub is arriving tomorrow, I'm sure the neighbors will love that...

I wouldn't worry too much about the break-in. It is very debatable as to whether speakers actually break in or not. (I can be said that it's the listener that's actually breaking in.) Regardless of whether break-in is an actual physical phenomenon or not, I would just listen to the speakers normally and not bother leaving them on at high volumes while you're out. Why waste all that good music on an empty house?

I assume you'll be keeping the speakers, right?

Before yet another break-in debate ensues, I tell you this simple fact:

Ian Colquhoun, the Axiom founder and the designer of all Axiom speakers (and our famous hero on the top page of this site), has openly stated that 2 hours are the sufficient break-in time for his speakers. It is likely that you have already broken-in yours by now.

I think I'd tend to argue the side that it is 'mental' break-in rather than 'physical' break-in. I bought a pair of demo M60ti's about 3 weeks ago, and when I hooked them up to my Yamaha receiver, I felt they were pretty bright. But I'm really starting to enjoy them now and believe the highs are less pronounced. Since these were demo (though used sparingly) the speakers would have already been broken in. The only thing I can think of, is that I've gotten accustomed to the sound and speaker break-in is all "in your mind"! I do love them by the way!

Perhaps the changes your perceived were due to your amp and/or speaker wire adapting to their new loads... ???

Is that a rhetorical question?

That list is pretty much dead on for this board.

Not sure why, but mentioning any of those items is like having an atheist and a christian argue about god. It's just an endless circle of arguing. Neither side is ever going to be convinced that they are wrong. Not worth trying.

This "entrenchment" reminds me of the shootout scene in Naked Gun where the movie cuts back and forth between the two actors, then revelas the full scene and they're firing at each other while only 2 feet apart.

To re-write the scene and make it apply to this forum, I'd put a pair of Axiom speakers in the middle facing the camera, the scientific empricists on one side with sniper rifles, and the experientialists on the other side with shotguns. Implied in this arrangement is that the audience behind the camera doesn't really care who wins -- they're just enjoying the sound.
