Anyone else have this problem? My PS3's fan kicks into high gear rather often and is really loud. Is there a fix? I've been reading that some people have this problem, while others say they never hear their PS3 at all. It's not me being overly fussy...this thing is really loud.
Thoughts?

Hi Craig - been awhile.
With the fan kicking on in relation to the heat of the unit, it would make sense to try and keep the PS3 cool. Is it in the open and/or have good ventilation?
A thought. Get a powered USB hub and plug it into the PS3. Get a small computer can (80mm or 120mm) and plug it into the hub and let it cool the PS3.

The PS3 is the noisiest thing on my rack. Yes, it's loud. I do recall reading at AVS that there is a fix for this. It may require sending it to Sony.

I suspect Ray can't tell the difference between his "can" and his "fan." That's what happens when one gets really old.

It's all alone on it's own shelf in my audio cabinet, and there's lots of ventilation. It's not tight quarters, and the back of the cabinet is completely open.
I just thought though...I DO have a kitty. I wonder if it's gotten clogged up with kitty hair. I'll give that a check tonight. That'd limit the air flow!

Yeah, I've had the cat hair issue on my computers. I should check that again sometime...
Although not nearly as bad as a former client of mine (thank god) who was a smoker and had dogs (possibly little yappy dogs). That was the 3rd most disgusting piece of computer/network equipment I've ever worked on. Wiped the accumulated fuzz/gunk off the back, and suddenly it was a lot quieter.

Welcome to my biggest PS3 peeve. Mine is LOUD, as in vacuum cleaner loud. Fortunately, most of my recent viewing time has been HD Tivo so it's only an occasional issue if the kids watch a DVD. But sometimes someone accidentally turns it on and I come home to the loud blast.
I'm curious if there really is a workaround because I almost don't use it much because of the noise.

XBox 360 is annoyingly loud if you are within about 8 feet of it and hot too. And my dish network DVR is loud and hot too. Combine that with and HK receiver and an HK power amp and it is probably 100 degrees farenheit in the cabinet with the doors closed.
