My wife thought she loved Bose until she first heard Axioms. You don't know any different because you don't know any different.... This sounds like a mystery to solve. Why do wives claim to love Bose? I've even heard ones that say "oh, the TV speakers sound fine."

My wife was a Bose follower till i made her listen to floor standing speakers and put the same music CD and same track. She had not known a few notes that existed till she listened to floor standing ones. I am a happy camper now...she suggested i go out and get the best Axioms it will be..sooon. Baby due any time now..will get baby home and order the axioms. Suddenly a few babies to care for ;-) Regs, Avi

That's like trying to figure out why they think a chair made out of flimsy straw like material (wicker) is better than a wooden one.
Or why they think a couch with a reclining seat built in looks funny.
Or why eating rabbit pie is a sin but a turkey dinner would be just lovely.
I could go on and on..........
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

This guy is walking on the beach somewhere in California. He sees a lamp, rubs it, and a Genie comes out. The genie is so happy that he decides to grant one wish to the lucky guy.
The guy thinks about it and says, "I'd like you to build a highway to Hawaii because I am afraid to fly. The genie responds that this can't be done because it would be technologically impossible considering the depth of the ocean and the distance to Hawaii. So he asks the guy to wish for something else.
The guy thinks about it and, very enthusiastically, wishes he would understand women.
The genie than said, "Do you want your highway to have 2 or 4 lanes?"

For the sound bar systems, I like the Boston TeeVee model 2. It is so simple to set up, operate, and place. It gets full range sound into the room in a really easy way. As far as the other sound bars, they are all too gimmicky and will be tough to set up for any audio noob to get any kind of benefit over a 2.1 sound bar. Other than that, i would recommend a 3.1 system and forget the rears for now. An m2, vp100, and x-sub system would go a long way towards getting him into good audio and is upgradeable along the way. The m2s could go to the surround when he gets some more leeway from the wife. If she likes little cute speakers, these Energy speakers are supposed to sound great and look awesome IMO. You can get nice little stands for them from energy.

I'd seriously consider getting them on order before baby comes. Way too many variables to account for once that occurs. (I'm trying to make the same argument about a pool table right now and losing, but I know if I don't win now I'll never win, so I keep trying)

Somewhere in here I posted about my parents 3-2-1 system and I had run some test tones and such to see how it faired. It was terrible. I would just purchase the components yourself and show up at there house. Set them up and let them have a listen and then they can repay you. I can not stress this enough, avoid that 3-2-1 system at all costs. It does not give you surround sound at all. It barely gives you added width to the stereo sound at best and male voices end up coming from the bass module alot of times and not the speakers, I believe it is crossed over at 200hz,IIRC.
When we finish the addition at their house I have planned an Axiom system for them in beech - my treat.
