I have an old yamaha reciever that I want to get some use out of. I have an epic 60 500 for my theater, but I want something for my other room that has a tv in it. First question is has anyone ever used these as a center with two additional as fronts? Also how do these sound as opposed to other brands speaker packages such as polk and definitive theater systems? I am basically looking to get the best bang for the buck. I figure I would be happier with a 2 channel set up that sounds good rather than a 5.1 system that sounds ok. At least that is what I am thinking. How much difference is there between the m2's and the m3's? Would I want to spend the same money and get just 2 M22's As you can see I am not sure what to do here. I would appreciate some suggestions for the best set up. This will mostly be used just for tv watching, some movies, and music. This is not my theater setup.

I would recommend 2 M3s for a 2 channel TV setup. Forget the centre channel, its not really worth spending money on IMHO. I have owned all the bookshelf models, and the M3 is the best all around bookshelf with decent bass output.

Thanks, I don't think that is to expensive route to go. I have no problem going the factory outlet with this purchase. Just another quick question. If you were to go with another 5.1 setup, what would you do in this situation?

For me I love my M22s as a 2 channel, but for most M3s as a 2 channel will be the choice. It comes down to personal preferrance. The M22 will give you all the detail you can handle while sacrificing the low end (I bump up the bass in the receiver 3db to enhance the bass), the M3s give you a more laid back sound and appear to have more bass output, but do so while sacrificing midrange forwardness.

The difference [between the M22 and M3], while noticeable, is not really profound when not doing A/B testing. I have a 2 channel M3 setup right now with my TV, and I think it sounds awesome, with an impressive amount of low end for movies.

For the 5.1 question, depending on the size of the room, I would go with all M2 speakers, and capable sub to handle the crossover. The M2 is a KILLER speaker for the money, crystal clear highs and mids, but without a sub it really doesn't compare. If you bought 5 M2s and a capable sub, you would have a great 5.1 surround sound system for your upstairs TV room.

so if I went with 5 factor second m2 and an ep 125 that would be exactly 1000 bucks. Are there any systems out there other than axiom at that price that are great for the money or would you stick with that or would you change the sub?

also how would this setup rate against the home theater systems such as the polk rm 75 or the kef egg shaped things? I know that isn't the best discription, but i think you might know what I am talking about.

I can't speak for those other systems, but I am an Axiomite. I would recommend the M2s over other little bookshelves.

Read this review and see for yourself how impressive the M2 really is.

I personally wouldn't buy an Axiom sub that is less than the EP350v3. I believe that Axiom has some work to do in those low end subs that they sell. Perhaps check out some other sub makers (SVS, HSU, Rocket X-Sub is a good option)

I can't say how 3 M2's across the front would sound, but I can say I am very pleased with my M3's in a similar setup. Without a sub they performed well, but adding the AV123 X-Sub took it to another level. If you add a decent sub to the M2's I would imagine that you would be quite happy.
