Has anyone been tinkering with room accustics ? Trying to tame the high end or low end sound waves ?
I'm going to give the low end a go, with those 3 foot long pre-formed/compressed sections of pipe insullation, made by Knauf.. I guess the deal is to stand them in the corners.. Stacking them will add to their effect.. Cost is a bit over 21 bucks for each 3 footer..
Has anyone else experimented with this, or other low freq sound absorbing tricks ? The price doesn't seem like much, until you start adding it up: $100 for 4..Double stacked in the corners, $200.. Half tubes on the side walls, etc, etc..
Being the somewhat 'tightcheeked' individual that I am, I thought I'd ask if anyone else has already done this before spending any of "My" hard earned green..
Oh yeah, Kauf: 1-800-825-4434, to find your local distributor.. And, http://ic.net/~jtgale/diy2.htm for the write up on 'how to'..

LFE ! The rest is just details..

To be honest, I am highly skeptical of these "bass management" products. Treble absorbers/diffusers, I fully understand. But the room-mode problems in the mid-bass and bass frequencies are due to reflections off the entire surface of room boundaries. How the heck can these "absorbers," which will occupy a very small fraction of the reflecting wall area at best, possibly tame the bass frequency room modes in a meaningful way??? -- doesn't at all make a physical sense to me.
