Hey guys,

I have sold my house, and I want to upgrade my speakers. I really have always wanted Rosewood M80s, the premium on purchasing them is quite a hefty one to take. I have come to love the Axiom sound and am a bit torn between the Rosewood options AV123 offer with the Rocket series, and M80s.

One thing I have going for me is the trade-in option for the M80s, I'll be able to trade in all my gear towards the purchase of M80 Rosewood towers and only pay about $1000 extra (just for the towers mind you).

Just looking for advise on the matter. I am seriously considering the Axiom route, but >$2000 is alot for M80s, even tho I know I will prefer their sound to the Rockets more "laid back" qualities.

I'm no help. I'm not going to compromise on the sound for the aesthetics.

Robb, if you like the M80's sound, pay the extra for it. It may seem steep now, but in the long run you'll be happy. Every day you look at them, even three years from now, you'll think to yourself, "I made the right choice and I have no regrets."

I always equate it to buying a car. You have your eye on a silver one, but the dealer is going to give you a thousand off on the mustard yellow one. Is the money you're going to save right then carry you through your years of ownership? You don't want to wake up every morning and think, "Yuck, I should have paid extra for the color I wanted."

Robb, price out some Paradigm Studio 100s, then come back to the M80s. That premium doesn't look so bad for the sonic signature you are looking for.

I love the flat response that the M80 chart shows. Its a no compromise speaker with amazing FR. I have come to love how spacious my M22s sound, they are so crystal clear that I dont think I'll ever be able to go to a speaker that is more recessed in the mids and highs.

My mind is pretty much made up on the Axioms, I just need to convince my wife now that the premium is worth it (she too loves Rosewood tho, so it should be an easy sell ;\)

Did you try to sell the H/T set up with the house? Possibly get a better price then trading in with Axiom?

The system didn't sell with the house, for some reason they didn't want a Home Theatre in the basement...beats me!

If you made some good $$ on the house, then pony up for the rosewood and you will never regret it. Another option is seeing if High gloss cherry is to your liking. I love my HGC M3's.

Are you still living in the west end of Calgary?

West end...and any money made on the house is going towards tuition in Los Angeles \:\(

I wouldn't mind seeing some HG cherry in person, my wife would have to see it as well, and if she likes em, that might be an option for sure.

Well, I have been thinking this lunch hour, and looking at HG cherry pics...and I think I have decided on HG cherry, but here lies the problem. I'll be in LA in September, EAGER to order M80s, however, if I just wait a bit (until November) i'll be able to get the upgrade for free (as per Axiom's free christmas upgrade program every year). I am not sure I could wait that long...it would be pretty darn hard.

Maybe once I move, i'll phone Axiom and try to get them to swing me a deal early since I am an existing owner...if not, I may be forced to wait 2 months!!!

Ken,

If you see this, can you take some pics of your vermont maple M80s and post them in this thread? I am very interested in that finish.

What I would really love to see is HG Vermont Maple. Axiom must be able to do this. I think this would be my choice finish.

Vermont Maple M80.

Vermont Maple M80, M50, light maple M3.

The standard Boston Cherry finish is on top, the Vermont Maple is underneath. This is from the old M22/M50 comparison. Looking at the other pics, the color in this one does not seem accurate, but it gives you an idea of what the difference between the two is.

HG Burled Walnut on top, Vermont Maple underneath. This is probably the best color of them all, but the top one is pretty close, too.

Izzat enough, or do you want more? ;\)

Well, remember that there were all taken with a flash. The color on the website isn't bad, but it is a bit lighter than that in real life. Your best bet would be to have Axiom send you a sample.

Thing is, the high glosses aren't just a coating applied to the vinyl; they're a different vinyl. I don't think they can go that custom.

There's always HG Burled Walnut! I'm not sure how well that would translate to large speakers, but it's gorgeous on the 'bytes.

I am not the biggest fan of the Burled Walnut...

A General question to those with HG speakers and a projection system. How bad do the speakers reflect the light off the screen? Is it very noticable, or it is just a minor thing.

Thanks!

Maybe Axiom could run a 'Summer Celebration Sale" like a number of stores around here do.

Axiom should run a "free high gloss Maple Vermont" specially for the stimulus checks coming out... *crosses fingers*. If I could suggest another glossy finish, I would think HG Vermont Maple would sell well...(I know I would buy a 5.1 set with it \:\)

Actually, I did check and it isn't available. I'm sorry about that! There aren't that many gloss vinyls available anymore - I think because they are very hard to work with from a manufacturing standpoint (and of course more expensive than regular vinyl.)
