Holy smokes!
As if last weekend wasn't bad enough, I think my new Yamaha RX-V 2400 just crapped out on me.

The sound from the dolby digital layer of DVDs sounds horrible, as though some of the frequencies are muted and/or heavily veiled. Especially LFE but not limited to. As far as I can tell, all the setting are right.

However, the DTS layer sounds perfect(relative term). I've tried two different DVD players and get the same result.

Anybody have any ideas?

First thing I would do is to "reset" the receiver. My Elite receiver has a certain procedure to do that, and I believe your Yamaha has one, too. See the manual.

If there is a way to "reset", the Yamaha manual is doing a good gob of hiding it. I can't find anything in the manual except a remedy in case the unit fails to turn on, it says to: set this unit in the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, pulg in back in after 30 seconds. Do ya think that could reset the system?

Hmm... If that sets all parameters back to factory defaults, I'd assume the receiver has been "reset." But if that's the case, it means that your receiver will suffer from severe amnesia every time the AC power goes down for more than 30 seconds...
