I got mine from the local Fry’s for $159.00 (see I don’t pirate everything). It was a special order that never got picked up so they gave me a deal on it. Also picked up the complete Angel series but always liked Buffy better.
The first season, it didn't quite have it's mojo yet....Buffy was portrayed as a bit ditzy and "Valley Girl" (and the storylines and F/X were a little "TV").
I agree the characters improved with time though I thought that the series peaked with season 4. I actually liked the ditzy “Valley Girl” Buffy better than the serious mature Buffy of the later series and I also preferred the earlier story arcs.

Naaah.. Willows GF in the last several episodes...
Strangely I preferred Tara probably because she reminded me of a very sweet person I knew. Though my favorite character was Spike.
