can someone measure 2 things for me? The bottom of the QS8 relative to the ceiling. And the gap between the top of the speaker to the ceiling. When I got my Qs8's originally, they never had a ceiling mount otherwise I would have bought them I'm using the normal FMB right now, and I'm wondering if the $64/ bracket is worth it or not over what I have now. I only have a 2" clearance from top of speaker to ceiling and the bottom of the speaker right now is 10" from ceiling. I find ever since we moved into our new home, I have not been happy with my QS8's. While the room is near identical to our old one, it's a little bigger and I'm hoping maybe dropping the qs8's lower might help. Just wish the darn brackets didn't cost a small fortune. old theatre link still active so you can see my qs8's http://www.axiomaudio.com/newf.html

Dang Newf, where in the heck have you been and how are you doing?
Sorry I can't help you regarding the ceiling mounts.
Edited to add...
Have you considered lowering the 8s a few inches and flat mount them to the wall? I believe so as long as you have around six or so inches off the ceiling you should be fine?

Let's see top of bracket to bolt hole is 5 3/8", the bolt on the QS8 is ~3" down from the top, leaving 2 3/8" of an air gap to the ceiling. The QS8 is 8 1/4" tall, so the bottom should be ~10 1/2" down from the ceiling. This is all just quick calcs from the web site specs.

RickF. I've been home, for over a year now injured. Bored OUT OF MY MIND. Back injury, and messed up ribs. Long Story, but basically i have issues using computer so I haven't been online much. I have considered wall mount, but the cables that are ran inwall are coming out of ceiling. To go wall mount now would be a PITA. And where I'm injured, I can not do the work myself right now. I did the same numbers JAke, but it doesnt' seem right. I got the impression that the ceiling mount was much longer then the normal FMB. I mean, my speaker is already close to those numbers you got and I'm using plain jane fmb. if it's not, then I guess it answers my questions though doesn't it. Ideally, the real solution to my problem is to get another set of Qs8's I have 5.1 now, and I'm sure 7.1 ( walls are already wired for 7.1) would "help" but alas I'm on LTD due to injury and it's only 70% of my salary.....and I guess I should probably get other people in the family gifts for xmas first....you know, be "nice" and not selfish and all...

Steve, good to hear from you again, although very sorry to learn of your injury. Sure hope that you're able to get back into action soon.
As to positioning the QS8s, more than a couple inches from the ceiling is usually suggested, but I don't know if that's really necessary or is just said to make sure that there's at least some room for the top mid-woofer.

I just put together my Ceiling bracket and measured it, the specs are off but only by 1/4", the total length from the ceiling to the center mounting hole is 5 5/8" other than that, our calculations are correct.

I have speaker wires in the wall sticking out about an inch (enough to grab a hold of to yank out the slackin the wall) right where the wall meets the ceiling. Is it better to use wall mounts to get the speakers a little further down from the ceiling? What would be the advantage in using the ceiling mounts?

If there is no wall nearby then you use the ceiling mount, obviously, otherwise, use the wall mount and then you can drop down as much as you want, ideally 2-3' above seated ear level.

I forgot to say that this is a livingroom with couch against one wall and loveseat against the other wall with an end table in the corner. Wires are to the outside ends of both of these pieces. Speakers would be just outside above the head of the furthest outside seats.

I guess I'll order the wall mounts this week. I have time because I just woke up and my speakers still aren't here yet.

The wall/ceiling mounts are included with the QS series are they not?

Wall, yes, but some people still prefer something sturdier for wall-mounting.

Adrian, They come with a flush wall bracket which is good if you have room behind your seating. My seating is up against the wall. Using a wall bracket that can angle down will help get the tweeters angled down towards my seating area better than the flush wall mount that comes with the speakers. http://www.axiomaudio.com/fullmetalbracket.html#Click on the close-up

Bob, not to be nosey, but you may not want to point the tweeter at your seating position. I think the point of the design is to avoid on-axis listening, which is why the front panel facing the listening room is the only surface without a speaker. Check with Alan, but I think you will get better rear imaging without the special bracket to aim it at you. Just tweaking your system without invitation...you can thank me later.
