Personally I have a PS3 and the up-conversion quality is far superior to any upconverting DVD player I have yet seen, and several dedicated blu-ray players.
you can buy a blue-tooth remote for it for about $20 so you don't have to use a controller
I had also read several reviews this past summer where the PS3 was voted as the best video quality of any of the blu-ray players.
sony is currently running a deal on their website where you get a PS3 for $150 off if you sign up for their playstation credit card at the same time. (a pretty good deal i think)
Even if you never play videogames, the ability to do wireless firmware upgrades and the video-quality make it a fantastic player.

I haven't been playing anything except Mahjong Titans lately. It's how I occupy myself while listening to new music. Oh, and DDR, which I still use to get my heart rate up for a bit and burn some calories. It's pretty lame, but I kind of stress out playing a lot of video games. I've migrated toward an imbalance favoring passive entertainment. I'll have to learn to become competitive again.

It doesn't always have to be competitive. There's a little something for almost anyone. (maybe not dead people)
