The 15-year-old 25" Zenith in the bedroom has quit. Completely.

While I suggested to my beloved that we buy a suitable HDTV for the main room and move the 55" Mitsubishi RPTV to the bedroom, she thinks that's overkill (and a bit too expensive).

So, I am looking to buy a cheap 25-27" TV for the bedroom. Just something to watch occasional tapes, maybe a non-critical DVD and fall asleep to Letterman. Price much more important than performance, but let's not go nuts or anything.

Anybody have any suggestions? Would you advise me to pay a $100+ premium to get a flat screen?

Thanks for your sage counsel.

For the bedroom? Get the cheapest set you can. Why pay extra for anything if it's just for non-critical watching, and falling asleep in front of?

I've seen this model listed on a couple of reviews as being a good buy for a TV in the 20-27" range.

If that's a little more than you were looking to spend, you could always check out the non-flat screen version, I think it's the 27A43 model number.

As spiff said, no need to go expensive.

However, there is one option that I must have for a bedroom setup. That is the smartsound(what it is called on my magnovox bedroom tv), that keeps the volume at the same level when a commerical comes on or I switch channels. Nothing worse that the volume doubling while I am falling asleep.

I have a 27" Zenith TV that I'm pretty happy with. It was $100 less than comp. models from other makers and has a comb filter. The only problem is it only has one set of inputs.

Only one problem with that Sharp from Best Buy in my book. I've had very bad experience with Sharp products and avoid them whenever I can. I have had a two hundred something dollar combo (radio, CD, tape, speakers) set for the bedroom, and two microwaves made by them. All have had various problems that will keep me away in the future.

If Sharp works for you, great...just my 2 cents.

The Sharp from Best Buy was just an example. If it were me, for an aplication like he described, I wouldn't spend any more than that.

btw...I've had a 25" Sharp TV that never had an issue in it's 12+ years of use.

I've been using a 27" Sharp for years.
