I want to compress all my FLAC files to MP3 for use in my iPod.
Is there a software out there that I could just point it to the folder I have all the FLAC files in and the software will compress them?
It doesn't matter to me if it costs or if it's freeware.

foobar2000 can do it. It's free. This link describes the process.

It's freeware, but since it doesn't matter to you, please send me 5 bucks.

There's a script called flac2mp3 that I used.
The pay version of MediaMonkey will do the conversion on-the-fly; you just keep the library of FLAC files and it converts them to MP3's when you sync the portable device. Or so I'm told. Might not work with that proprietary Apple stuff, though.

I have Foobar already, I'll give that a try. I had no idea it could batch convert, but I'm not surprised. It has quite a few interesting features.
I have to re-rip a few CD's with screwed up tags that Foobar can't fix first.

Mediamonkey works with iTunes and iPods, Peter? Sure, iPods'll play MP3s just fine, but...

ok, so my criticism was misdirected. I was referring to the the iPod's ability to play back the results of the conversion process, not the software's ability to put files onto the iPod. I'm confident mdrew knows that he'll need to use iTunes to load music onto the iPod.

Hu?? What are guys talking about? I have iTunes. I hate it, as the damn thing continues to tell me to install Safari and it wants to take control of my PC.
OK, so I tried to do the mass conversion with FooBar last night. Stupid thing had a window up saying it could not convert some 8000 songs. Major errors. I'm surfing around trying to find out how exactly to set up this program for converting, but haven’t had a lot of luck. The Link above that Peter provided is for older versions of FooBar.
This freeware stuff is pretty cool...but it sure comes with headaches. It isn't for the PC challenged folks like me.
