Hi there!...finally got a projector..so I am moving my speakers to the room it will be in.

I am wondering if M80's will be too big for a 10'wide by 19' long room.

I wanted to use a 100-105" wide CIH size AT screen.

Another questions is that the lower part of the screens frame will be in front of the lower drivers. Somewhat inbetween the bottom two. Will that be bad?

Should I just get 3 m22's instead?

If I used a 88-92" diag 16x9 solid screen, the m80's would only be about 7 or so inches away from the side walls. Which is why I was going to go AT. That's doesn't seem like proper breathing room? It would also leave me with a pretty small 2.35 scope viewing area. I wouldn't mind having the option to have that sweet 105" wide scope movies :).

I wouldn't worry about the position of the frame in front of the lower drivers--lord knows mine get obscured half the time... Also, I'm not a believer in "too big for the room" when it comes to speakers, except in physical dimensions. If you can take that (look at a side view of an M80 to see exactly how deep it is+breathing room), then I wouldn't worry about it.

My view is to forget the so-called "acoustically transparent" screen, which isn't ideal for either sound or picture, and go with the second screen that you mention. Having the M80 woofer cones very close to one room surface is okay if their distances to the floor and other wall differ. So, I'd suggest the M80s outside the screen and a vertical M22 beneath it for the center channel.

I did a lot of research a year ago into screens and projectors. Despite a good effort, I couldn't find any data or supporting opinions that made me comfortable enough to go with the concept of an acoustically transparent screen at that time.

Liquid - check out my pictures for a similarly sized room. Mine is around 14' wide, so a bit wider, but I've managed to squeeze 2 M80s plus an EP800 + EP600 in the front of the room. My screen is in a 16:9 format and is 92" diagonal.

So, are two M80s too big for your room? Not even close.

As for the questions about the screen... I agree with everything about the transparent screens. I'd forget that idea and go with a regular screen. You could consider a wall mount of a VP150 as well, which you can also see in my pictures.

how tall is your room? You can't raise the screen up enough for the 80's to sit below? Keep in mind if your going to have 2 rows of seating you don't want the people in the front row to block the back row viewing.

So with screen 2 it would be
(Wall-7"gap-M80-Frameleftside-framerightside-m80-7"gap-Wall)
M22 center channel.
The m80's would have about 12 or so inches behind them before the rear wall, and 7" to the sides, on both sides. Maybe less if I ever GG, Doubledrywall, decouple, etc...

This is definately okay? Just seems sooo close.



Hi Jason, I saw your room...Love it. I would LOVE to have 14 ft wide room. To me, it looks like your speakers have proper breathing room. I'm without those 4 feet that your speakers are hanging out in That's what made me think AT...to get the speakers away from almost touching the side walls.

But, no one mentioned speakers almost up against the sidewall being too bad..So maybe I will give a regular 92" screen a go.



You know...I was wishing Axiom made a speaker like the Klipsch THX just so I could do this! My room is standard 8 feet tall. I am pretty sure that the screen on top of the M80 speakers will be too high. I will remeasure and evaluate this option. Maybe I can tape 2 M22's together for each left, center and right I know I've seen some of you making frankenspeakers before :P.

Just posting a quick reply (I'll admit I didn't read every reply).

Unless you go with really (and I mean *REALLY*) expensive screens, and then you run into issues of matching a high performance projector to that screen to "compensate" for the acoustically "opaque" (not really transparent) screen. I would skip the idea personally. As for the M80s, let me tell you about my speaker choice path.

I started with M22 fronts and VP 100 center. When talking with the folks at Axiom, and we talked about cubic feet (volume of the listening area) I bumped up to M60 fronts and a VP150 center.

That was when I was really set up in a non-dedicated area. Now, I am in a 10' x 15' room and the M22s would certainly do the job, but I don't ever feel like my M60 fronts and VP150 are "overkill". Heck, the M60s would work wonderfully in your size room as well, but why not go for the M80s if you are looking at them anyway. They will be amazing for you.
