My room is about 11 X 20 and I don't feel as though the M80's are overkill. The reason I went with the 80's over the 60's is that I can play them at lower levels and still get amazing detail (I live in a townhouse and can't play movies too loud too late).

Liquid, do you already have the M80's?

I have 9ft ceilings and a 10ft wide 2.35: 1 constant height screen, 51"tall x 120" wide. My 80's are currently on a stage up front so they won't fit underneath, but if I was not on a stage they would fit fine. Not sure about 8ft ceilings.

What is important is that the drivers are not the same distance from the side walls as they are from the back walls. Plus, you could toe-in the speakers slightly anyway, which works great.

Yes, those distances are okay. Keep in mind that what we're talking about is the distance to the center of the woofer cones, not the distance to the closest point of the enclosure. These distances should differ so that the reflections from the nearest room surfaces don't all pile up at the same frequency, causing a significant peak and valley in the response.

By the way, "breathing room" is most often applied to the distance necessary for the speaker ports not to be significantly affected. Alan has pointed out that a few inches are adequate for this, so the distance that you mention from the wall behind would be no problem from that standpoint.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I do appreciate that offer! Wish I could take you up on it, I live in Las Vegas now. I should update my profile. Seriously though, thank you again for that offer. I do already have the m80's.

Ah ok. Then that would work for me. Looking at your sweet sweet scope screen really makes me want one. If the screen on top is too high up... I may have to trade in my m80's for something that would fit under. Then I'd end up with the issue of the tweeters potentially being too low? I dunno... I will probably start out with a 16x9 screen for now since I do not have a anamorpic lens anyway.

To expand on the speaker idea... could I use double m22's l/c/r to get closer sound to the m80's? Or just silly talk? Sounds kinda like silly talk :(. It would be nice of axiom to release info they are gonna make a big ol stumpy double wide box speaker :)! I don't want to try out the Klipsch ones...

Thanks for that info. That does add a few inches of clearance then ;\) Alright..so I got it now.
Distance from sidewalls the same = okay.
Distance from the sidewalls the same as distance from the back wall = not okay.

Once again...thank you all so much for taking the time to write such thorough responses.

My M80's sound great and my room is not much bigger. (2150 cf) However, it does open up to a kitchen and a hallway.
