So I keep seeing the "So what are ya listening to tonight?" thread in "Stereo" with all these fun music posts, but I probably throttle my own system more with films (and games.) I hadn't seen a similar (post inflating) thread over here for those of us who enjoy more than two speakers at a time ;)... So here goes!
Just got done watching the Bourne Ultimatum on Blu-Ray. Easily one of the most impressive live action audio tracks I've heard yet. Maybe not for the LFE bomb enthusiasts, but dang are the music and effects good.
What's everyone else rattling their walls with?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

maybe we could move that thread in here then? I'd think if i wanted to talk about home theater material, it'd be in here.

I put it in the Water Cooler because a long time ago someone berated me (okay, simply questioned me) for posting about movies in the home theater category.

What's with the "listening" thread being in the "stereo" forum anyway? I'm listening to Bjork's Vespertine 5.1 DVD-A right now. Trying to make some mention notes for comparison when my QS8s arrive on Monday.

It's been a while since I've listened to that one. I don't have a DVD-Audio player right now, anyway, but I have it in SACD and Dolby 5.1/DTS, too.

It's definitely my reference disc. I've been a Bjork fan since the Sugar Cubes, and even more so after she started her solo career. So it's always a pleasure for me to listen to her stuff. Vespertine is probably my favorite album of hers (either that or Homogenic but I only have the later as Dolby/DTS from the Surrounded box set). "Unison" the closer of Vespertine is my favorite track, I just keep creeping up on the volume the whole way through (I just got a Radioshack SPL meter on Friday, so it was sitting next to me; a glance at it at the end of the track showed 105 dB peaks).
Vespertine also comes closest to all channels driven with broadband content as any of my discs, and is still musically pleasing. From the symphony to the custom music boxes, and the synths and odd sound effects which are all spread around, then her soaring vocals in the center. It really is a treat for the ears.
The thing I'm going to be listening for the most when the new speakers though is the little tick-tick-ticks which now crawl along my back and right walls in a few of the tracks. They are equally mixed in the the left and right surrounds at some points and then in the right- front and surround at others. I'm curious how they'll be resolved with the quad-poles.
I need to get a new center next. One thing that's always bugged me about all these Bjork 5.1 discs is how her vocals sound. I'm not sure if it is my speaker or the mixing/processing of the vocals, but with my current setup she sounds boxed in and a bit harsh. I need a different speaker to compare against.

I wasn't too impressed with the mixes of the Surrounded box set overall. I'll have to try listening to them again to remember why.
How do you like her Vespertine Live at Royal Opera House DVD? That's one of my reference concert discs. I usually skip to "Hyperballad" and "Human Behavior" when I just want a taste, but I like the whole disc.

By the way, I just listened to several tracks off of the SACD of Vespertine, including "Unison". It really is a great track. The thing that surprised me in this listen was all of the low, rumbling bass throughout the track that I didn't remember.

I'm in agreement about the surround mixes of some of the albums in the Surrounded set. While Vespertine and Medulla were mixed in 5.1 from the outset and thus have much thought and care put into the mix, the other albums seem to have been done just to be done. Know what? I'm a bad Bjork fan, I've never seen that DVD. I've just attempted to rectified that and ordered it.
