The only major difference between these two is the ethernet port, no? Anyone have any thoughts that could convince me that the 906 is worth the extra $400? Accessories4less.com has some pretty stellar deals on Onkyo gear (both new and factory refurbs). I've been wanting a new receiver for some time now. The 876 seems like one hell of a deal at $899 for a refurb.

In my view, the 876 is the choice, Craig, especially considering the A4L price on the 876 factory refurb.

Since you are already streaming using the PS3 the the ethernet port would only be in use for firmware updates, not worth the $400 to me, who am I kidding, I would be buying the 906 just for updating over the network.

I would say the ease of doing FW upgrades *HAS* to be considered in this day and age (of changing standards). That was one of the KEY reasons I returned the Marantz SR8002 for Denon 3808.

Did you ever move on this? I too, am looking at a refurb 876 ($839 at eCost!). Looks like a fabulous receiver for a great price. Just curious for your opinion on it, if you bought one. There's no difference in updates between the 876 and the 906. Both technically need to be sent back to Onkyo. The 906 does have an ethernet jack for streaming audio, but it doesn't do firmware updates over it. Firmware updates are done via the serial port. The firmware files and updater utility are available over on AVS and many have updated their 876/906 by themselves without sending it to Onkyo. You just need a PC with a serial port. However, if you brick it, you may be SOL. My #1 fear with the 876/906 is upgradability. Totally stupid that they don't support user updates. Even my TV has a USB port for user-applied firmware updates.

Am I correct in saying the 876 and 906 come WITH Audyssey MultEQ XT AND Dynamic Volume AND Dynamic EQ
versus, the Denon's you have to get some feature pack upgrade before the end of this month?

Yes, as to the 876 and 906, Randy. I haven't followed the Denon story on that closely enough to grasp the significance of the end of this month.

It appears the Denon 2809 has MultEQ XT (8 positions) as well as Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Unless, I'm not understanding the Denon website, it appears you have to get a upgrade pack to get the latest features from Audyssey. Or maybe this is some new upgrade not yet available in the 2809. Oh well, I'm sure someone will come along and explain things.

It looks like the 2809 is newer and has most of the bells and whistles, it replaced the 2808.
From the Denon website.
For a truly stunning surround sound experience, the AVR-2809CI is packed with the latest audio and video technologies, for the ultimate performance with next-generation formats such as Blu-ray. The advanced surround sound processing section is powered by two 32 bit floating point DSP chips, and features the highest resolution surround decoding, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, along with a full suite of additional surround decoding functions. The powerful seven channel amplifier section features 115 watts of power per channel, and provides the choice of driving a 5.1 channel system in the main room, with another stereo speaker pair in another room with independent source selection. The advanced video section features four v1.3a HDMI inputs, along with four additional wideband component video inputs, with Faroudja DCDi video processing and up-conversion that allows a single component or HDMI cable run to the HDTV. The AVR-2809CI is one of the first to feature Audyssey Dynamic Volume, which automatically eliminates irritating jumps in volume between TV shows and commercials, as well as Audyssey Dynamic EQ to ensure rich bass and smooth tonal balance, even at low volume levels. For optimum audio fidelity, the Audyssey MultEQ in-room acoustic correction system measures the overall room response at up to eight measurement points and tailors the sound for the most natural tonal balance everywhere in the listening space.

Yeah Randy, I know that the 2809 has the Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume as standard features while the older 3808 has to have an upgrade package which cost $100 for units bought before a certain time or was "free" after that time(the 3808 price had been increased about $100). What isn't clear to me is what happens after the end of the month. Is the upgrade no longer available, will it cost $100(even though the price of the unit had been increased), are they reducing the price of the 3808 to compensate, or what?
