OK, my eyes are blurry and my ears are ringing from reviewing, listening, and studying. It makes me wonder how people bought things without the internet. What a great toy.

I come to you folks for advice please.

I just bought a new home. I want to put a great HT in my living room within budget of course. Total is about 5K.

I have dedided to get the Epic 80 system. I cant fid anyone that does not like them! Kinda scary not hearing though.

I thought I had my mind made up with the Yamaha RX-Z1, until someone mentioned to think about seperates. So, I have been looking at Outlaw's 950 and 770.

Now my room is not big, 17x15 with and angled ceiling, 3 1/2 walls spilling into the kitchen area.

Im almost 40, but still the kid in me says more power the better. Is this set up too much power? Any disadvantages of going this way?

I'm afraid to ask for more suggestions, because I will have to study more, but fire away!

I think your choices are excelent. I looked at lower end Yamaha and Outlaw products this time last year. I bought the outlaw 1050 and have been very happy with it. I think Outlaw offers great price performace value. Separates offer a bit more flexibility in upgrading. One other option would be the Pioneer Elite models with MCACC and ilink inputs for one wire high bandwith multichannel inputs like the VSX-55TXi http://www.elegantaudiovideo.com/piovsx55txi.htm and flagship VSX-49TXi http://www.elegantaudiovideo.com/piovsx49txi.htm Many here consider the auto equalization (MCACC) a great step forward and the ilink input will open the door to advanced multi-channel sources.

one thing to note about the m80's is that they are the most sensitive speakers in the axiom line meaning they require less power then all the other speakers.

Some audio ppl have suggested "buy as much power as you can comfortably afford".
Others will be more specific and ask about your usage of the sound system first before making suggestions.
For a first time system, do some trial and error but with an educated guess at what you might want. Power is certainly not everything and not alot of power is required to play sound at the volume level preferred by most people.

I think those selections are very good. Too much power, I don't think so. You have a volume control right? At least if you have more power, when the music, movie, whatever gets very dynamic, your amp won't struggle to get everything to the speakers.

The only thing you have to worry about is your kids playing their music really loud on your new speakers when your not home.
