I finally got a pair of QS4's to finish my 5.1 system! Here's my question to the forum regarding placement:
My listening couch is up against a back wall facing the TV. About 2 feet from one end of the couch, there is an adjacent wall and the other end is open. I was thinking about mounting one QS4 about 2-3' above ear height flat against the wall next to the couch, and then mounting the other on the back wall on the other side at the same height, but tilted in toward the the middle of the couch using one of the Axiom swiveling wall brackets.
Will this work OK or should I mount both of them against the wall behind the couch? I really can't test them out without mounting them first. Thanks for any advice!

Personally, I would do as you proposed. The ceiling brackets are easy to install (I have 2).

Dave, welcome. The mounting that you propose sounds reasonable, although the mounting on the back wall works very well when sitting almost up against the wall. Since these are side surrounds, separate them as widely as possible.

Hi Dave,

My advice is to skip buying the swivel bracket and use that money toward building an addition on to your home for a dedicated home theater so that you can place your sofa at least 4 feet from the back wall, giving you the room to place your surrounds in optimal locations. I realize this might set you back a little more than just buying the swivel brackets, but I think in the end you will be happier with the sound quality if you go with 'my plan'!

... or you could ignore me and go your own way, suit yourself! ;\)

I did some experiments when I had my setup in a small bedroom and found that when my seat was right up against the back wall it was hard to tell the difference and may actually have sounded a little better with them on the back wall rather than to the sides facing in.

One experiment you might consider to help out your surround sound for dedicated movie watching is to pull the couch out a foot or so off the back wall while watching a movie. Even one or two feet can really improve how the surround sound field envelopes you. If that’s possible and it helps buy a set of furniture sliders to make it easy to pull the couch out and push it back in when not doing serious movie watching. Worked for me.

Cheers,
Dean
