thanks Rick! and Adrian...wow shame we can't mate them up...but I see you are really, REALLY far away. Question: if I take the Sansui to a shop (there is one nearby..I peeked through the glass door today, tho they were closed, and saw tube units sitting on the table, so I know they work on old stuff) and ask them to check it out, what can I expect as far as what info can they give me? Could they tell me for instance, distortion specs? thx again..

Could they tell me for instance, distortion specs? thx again.. They do still make Tube amps, so seeing some on a table doesn't mean they were old . As far as the specs go, that depends on how sophisticated the shop is and whether or not they want to take the time to do full range testing.

The main spec you would be concerned about with the sansui is DC offset since if its very high it could damage speakers. This is easily measured though with a DMM. Tons of threads on that audiokarma site regarding how to go about measuring this.
