Hey guys,

I've got a bit of a problem here and would appreciate any help.

I have a pair of M22s and absolutely love them. I would really like to get my girlfriend a pair of M2s for her mini system (its a sony 60CD mini system/boom box thing).

I was wondering if there would be any point to this? Would it sound better? I just really want to get her something that brings out more of what is there on the CDs she is listening to. I am not expecting as big as an improvement as I had with my jump from a denon mini system with Mission speakers to a HT setup. I believe her system has at least 50 watts per channel so I think thats ok but I am worried about what kind of frequency range the amp is putting out. I did a little research and it seems it is probably in the neighbourhood of 100hz to 10khz - is that even possible, that sounds awful (though literally it does) !

It should sound better, but that amplifier output is scary. However, I don't know if it's very likely. Anyone want to weigh in on that one? Perhaps you could try hooking up your M22s to it...

i had done pretty much the same thing when i had a sony mini-system. I replaced the speakers with jbl S26's. And it made a big difference in the sound. And for the frequency range i bet that is just what the speakers are able to reproduce. I think it is worth it, the speakers that come with those things are just plain crap.

The receiver/amp is likely to have a more extended frequency range but rather low output power. Check the fine print carefully, as manufacturers of mini-systems tend to play fast and loose with stating power output specs, often totaling the power output for all channels.

The smaller M2i's need more power than the M22s, but so long as you weren't planning to crank it up, replacing the existing speakers will make a huge improvement.

I have two of those sony systems for office/bedrrom use. I have tried them with both M50's and M22's. You will hear an enormous difference. You won't believe you are listening to the same recordings at times. Just don't try and play it real loud.
