Thanks for the suggestions. I suppose I should wait until the newest addition (Feb.) learns to do the walking thing before I go repairing/replacing anything.

You could get one of those invisible electronic fences that are meant for dogs. Set up a perimiter around your speakers and then put the collars on the kids. If they cross the line, they get a friendly zap as a reminder not to go there...
