I currently purchased the qs4 surrounds, the vp100 center channel, and the m2i bookshelves, to run along with a acoustic research 10" downfiring woofer. So my question is, with this type of set up it anyone familiar with the HK AVR230 and easy ways of tuning it in. I don't get it till christmas from my girlfriend until the 25th but I would like to get some ideas for when it comes time. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Caddy that should help make for a Merry Christmas! Be sure to study the owners manual, which you can even do online now to be ready. Among the things on the 230 that you'll set will be setting all the speakers to "small" and setting the crossover to the sub, probably best at 80Hz. The 230 has an EzSet microphone to automatically adjust the volume levels of the speakers(some posts have mistakenly said that the HK receivers also do frequency equalization, which some Pioneers and Yamahas do)to balance the sound at your listening position, and you'll want to run that. Among the interesting points might be whether you prefer to use DPL II or Logic7 to extract ambience effects from 2-channel material. Experiment and enjoy.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.
