Hey everyone, I got an H/K AVR320 for Christmas and I really like this unit, great power and features, my problem is I had to put it in an enclosed entertainment center with a glass door and only a couple of small holes to route wires in the back. The amp gets really hot after awhile. Should I install a small fan or drill more holes? Do the high current amps run hotter? Has anyone experienced this problem. The heat doesn't seem to affect the performance but over time I think it might shorten the life of the receiver. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

HK's do run hot, but I would be concerned about letting it get too hot. I'd drill some holes and add a fan. I did that once with my old system and it worked like a charm.

instead of drilling holes i would carve out a square or rectangle in the back. if you are good crafstman, maybe you can make it look like the square is supposed to be there (if for some reason someone looks).
can you remove the shelf above it? if you increase the airspace around the hk you can increase circulation and therefore cooling rate

Even if you can't remove it adding some some quarter size holes through the back end of that shelf could help as well and shouldn't be visible if you do them back far enough..

I've found with my H/K 525 that most of the heat is exiting from the top of the case (or at least, the problem heat). I've got an entirely open back shelf thing that it's on, and it still gets damn hot.

Are you sure there isn't an AMD chip in there somewhere?

perhaps you can cut a square hole and add the fan IN the hole, just get one of those box fans at radio shack and a 12v DC wall plug or something. they might also have 120v AC fans but i doubt it

Oh, such things exist, but I'm not sure where to get them. Some guy modded his computer to use one of those things instead of the 12V DC fans. I don't remember where I saw it, but it looked pretty silly.
