Hey everybody...
I just found a pair of Heco speakers (SM-640) at the thrift store, and other than the fact that they might be German and 4 ohms I don't know anything about them. Can anyone help?

All I could find (with Google) was their website. Luckily, it has an English version:
http://www.heco-audio.de/englisch/produkte.htm

There's one review on audioreview.com, but not for that model. The reviews are positive, at least...

Hi Robottawa,
Heco was briefly distributed in Canada quite a few years ago. They were quite decent, and, like other German brands, had a typically "German" tonal balance, rather like a European disco and not all that different from some other German brands like Magnat. The "disco" tonal balance typically has an elevated bass in the 100 - 300 Hz range, a gently depressed, kind of saddleback midrange, and exaggerated, tizzy highs. Not unpleasant, but certainly not accurate.

Thanks guys. I wonder what they would have cost when they were new. They sound pretty good but man are they ugly... wooden (veneer) box is OK but the fronts are covered by an aluminium coloured 'screen'. The screen is made of small squares ... kind of like metal shreddies.
I wonder if they would sound better if I pried the grilles off. Or maybe I'll just colour them black.
