I was watching "Tbe Killers, Live from the Royal Albert Hall" and I wasn't hearing much from my EP500, so I went to turn it up, and noticed that actually I'm not getting anything from my EP500 at all.
Even the power light is off. I tried a different outlet just in case, but still nothing.
Are there user replaceable fuses on this sub? or should I call Axiom?

Yeah, Shady; if even the power light is off, it's highly likely that a fuse needs to be replaced.

My model has 4 fuses. A main high amp fuse which is easy to find, and 3 low amp fuses, not so easy to find. Axiom was kind enough to send me a few, but I chew through these little things at a phenomenal rate. I get them from Mcmaster.com stock #6978K744 for the 1/4 amp fuses.

Scott If your sub is going through fuses like that why not contact Axiom for warranty service. That certainly can't be considered normal.

Yeah, I'd probably get a replacement amp from Axiom for Scott's issue.
Shady's does sound like a fuse, probably the main one.

Scott If your sub is going through fuses like that why not contact Axiom for warranty service. That certainly can't be considered normal. No, very not normal. It's even worse when I have the 12V trigger connected (so I have to turn on the sub manually - I need some form of exercise). I remember reading something here about a voltage mismatch between the Axiom amp and the Emo Pre-Pro with respect to the XLR connections. I don't think I can blame one company or the other for 2 standards existing, so I tolerate the fuse changes. I contacted Axiom quite some time ago when this first started happening and they didn't seem to be too concerned. Since no damage, that I can tell, is occurring in either unit, I'm not inclined to replace either one. If I'm good about turning on the sub after turning on the pre-pre and turning off the sub before the pre-pre, I get a good 4-6 months out of the fuses. Sometimes its only one that pops, sometimes its 2, occasionally its all 3. I can live with it... for now. Scott

Scott, I have about 10,000 hours on my EP500 over the last 3 1/2 years, with no problems. Even if someone at Axiom wasn't "concerned" about what you've described, I certainly would be and would press the matter further.

And knowing John, he probably had a stopwatch on for all listening sessions, with a spreadsheet to tally it up.

Naw, Ken; I cheated and made a rough estimate: 8 hours of classical a day for a little over 1200 days.

Hi Scott, Replace de 1/4 Amp (0.25) fuses with a one Amp (1.0) model; 250 volts - sloblo type.

Axiom CS comes through again, let us know if it helps Scott. I think someone was being a little too conservative specing out with those 1/4 amp fuses. 1 amp sounds a little more like it.

Just in case, I ordered 500, 800 and 1000 mA fuses. I'll step it up as needed to the 1 amp level that JC said was OK. I'm just a little concerned making a 4X jump. Fuses are spec'd at a particular level for a reason.

That was a direct recommendation from Tom who had designed the amplifier. It was extensively tested with the 1000 mA with success.

If the fuse blows, does that shut down the amp? No power light?

If the fuse blows, does that shut down the amp? No power light? Yes, the power light goes out. Judging by the Fuse's proximity to the Power in, I suspect that no power goes to the Amp once the fuse is blown.

If the fuse blows, does that shut down the amp? No power light? Some times I get a yellow light, some times a green light, can't recall if I've had no light, either way no sound when one (or more) of the low amp fuses blow. Scott

I have been using 1 amp fuses for about 3 months now without a single blown fuse. That's the longest run I've had. I've also got all the 12v triggers re attached and operating nicely. No more getting up to switch the Ep500 on and off again - 'cuz the sub is just so far away Scott
