If I do go with the M2 I had assumed I’d mount it in its natural vertical position but could I mount it horizontally as well? Best results are always to mount in the orientation it was designed for.

I would not mount the M2 horizontally, it is designed for vertical orientation for better off axis listening. Dual center channels work, one above and one below seems to be the best arrangement to center the dialogue on the screen. You can use them on either side but the listening positions need to be directly in front otherwise the sound always comes from the closest speaker and not the middle of the screen.

I have almost the identical room / seating set-up. You recommend putting the QS8's on the back wall, not in the 'null' spot on the side walls?

Hi Tony,
The QS8s are a bipole design, not a dipole, so they do not create a "null". And they work best on the side walls, to each side and a little back of the central seating area, about 2 to 4 feet above the heads of seated viewers (it's not critical).
We actually call the QS8s "quadpolar" surrounds because each has four drivers operating in phase.

Hi Alan,
I only have 2 feet between the seating area and the back wall. I have about 3 feet between the end of the seating area and each side wall.
Side wall still good?

I previously had the couch up against the back wall with the QS8's mounted on the back wall. I couldn't make the sides work in that room. Sounded great.
However, IF you really do have some space behind the seating area, on the sides is probably better.

Thank you, How far in from the side walls did you mount each one? Did you mount them flush to the wall or use the angle bracket and point them down slightly?

Tony,
The QS8s do not require pointing down, because of their multi-directional propogation. You can always try a pair using a couple of stepladders or an able assistant to support them at the sides and back while you listen and compare the results.
Since they rely on lots of room reflections to achieve the envelopment, the room itself is a variable, however, they tend to be forgiving of asymmetrical placement. My own QS8s--sidewall mounted--are not at the same height nor exactly opposite each other. My couch is against the back wall and in my room they sound great. Adding an additional pair above my couch for 7.1 did not significantly change the envelopment, but that might be quite different in other rooms.
