My own QS8s--sidewall mounted--are not at the same height nor exactly opposite each other. My couch is against the back wall and in my room they sound great. Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, Alan's ears are not at the same height nor exactly opposite each other either.

Well played, Mark.
Tony, I think standard advice is to mount them 1-3 feet above the listeners ear level. I just used the included T-bracket to mount them (both in that room and in their present location, which is 7.1 with 4 QS8's).
As Alan said, they are pretty forgiving relative to placement. As long as you calibrate your system (using an SPL meter or whatever software might be included in your receiver), you'll be good to go.

Tony, in your described situation it wouldn't be significantly different if you mounted QSs on the back wall, just a few inches from the side wall, or on the side walls just a few inches from the back wall. In either case they should be about 2-3' above ear level.
