Forgive my ignorance...

I'm confused as to what types of connections are the best (visually and audibly) for my HDTV, hometheatre and stereo system. My components are all 1-2 years old and of good quality such that they offer a myriad of connection choices.

Can someone provide me with a "Good, Better, Best" breakdown for all the different connections possibilities along with an understanding as to why?

Also, is it worth buying an upgraded cable for the run from the wall into my DirectTV HD receiver?

Thanks!

Here are some tutorials which should help.

This first one deals with video in general, and Section 5 deals with connectivity.

Here's one that addresses both video and audio.

And, this one covers it all. Just click on the piece of equipment in the photo in which you are interested, and you'll find a lot of information.

Hope they help.

I have no experience with DirectTV, so I don't feel qualified to speak to your question about the cable. Maybe someone else can help you with that.

Reid, some of the info in the sources Jack linked may be helpful, but you haven't really described much and there're too many variables to give you an accurate answer. You don't mention what you're using now, but an extremely general comment is that probably everything can be connected with 75 ohm coaxial cables with RCA plugs on each end. If that's what you're already doing there's probably no good reason to change. Again though, there're too many unknowns at this time.
