I am on the fence on buying Axiom Speakers. I have read all (or most) of the recent posts that state that Speakers are not bright, it is the recording that can be bright. I am curious how many of you have Axiom's along with a Yamaha reveiver? I would love to know if the general concencus is that they pair nicley. The reason I am wondering is that, while Axiom's return policy is great, the shipping of a full system woudl cost a fair amount,

Thanks again, Mike

P.S. I have a Yamaha RX-V630, listen to about 60:40 HT:music and am considering the M60ti's, the Vp150 and the QS8's. My room is about 15x15x9...

OK, here's a reply...I have the Yamaha htr5660, which is the rx-v640 eqivalent with m60, qs8, vp150 and ep350. It sounds great in a room 15x22x8.

I have a Yamaha RX-V1400, Axiom M60/VP150/QS8 and a Hsu VTF-3R. To my ear, they aren't bright at all, just detailed. The limiting factor is quality of source material, including how it was mixed. With poor quality speakers you often can't tell the difference. With Axiom it's glaringly obvious, even if you don't have a golden ear.

It's true you sometimes hear talk about pairing up receivers allegedly having a "laid back" sound with "bright" Axiom speakers. Harmon Kardon is often mentioned. Whether in a double-blind test anyone can reliably hear a distinctive receiver or amplifier (properly functioning and equally adjusted) is debatable. What's not debatable is whether people can easily identify speakers -- that's been proven many times.

The M60/VP150/QS8 combo is terrific, however IMO a subwoofer is optimum, esp for HT.

I don't see a problem with Yamaha+Axiom. I'd worry more about mundane things like where to put the QS8s, how to mount them, and where to put the VP150 (it's pretty big).

After getting them, if you've never tried surround music, try a DVD-A, which generally has a Digital Dolby or DTS 5.1 track that will play on your DVD player.

JohnK should have pointed out by now that solid state electronics have no particular "sound" of their own

I ran my M60's from an older Yamaha integrated until I upgraded from Dolby Surround to Dolby Digital. I think that both the Yamaha and the Axioms are neutral and detailed. If you ended up disliking such a combination, it would be because you don't like the "Axiom sound", not because there is an inherent "mismatch" between these manufacturers.

I recently purchased a Yamaha RX-V1400, Axiom M60ti/VP150/QS8 and SVS 25-31 PCi. I didn't audition anything else and only took the word of many happy customers on this site. Previously, I had no experience with HT or Quality sounding Music components. Even though my set up is probably lower to middle of the road stuff, I am just blown away with the quality and couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The Wife and I are just having a blast with our new toy which is often cranked way up with crystal clear performance.

OK, I have narrowed my exhastive (but fun) search for my speakers down to either:

Monitor Audio Silver S8's, SFX, and S-LCR
or
Axioms M60's, QS8's and the VP150

Do any of you have opinions either way?

Thanks again, Mike
