Hi, New user. I'm looking to upgrade my current Energy Take 5.2 system with sub. I would like to know if the axiom's m22ti, Qs8, 150 center and an SVS sub would be a nice upgrade or just a switch in speakers. Does anyone think I will be able to tell the difference? Thanks, I would hate to spend money if I don't have to.

m1, I don't think there is any question you would see a significant upgrade from the Energy to the Axiom/SVS combo. I use M22's, VP150, QS8's and an SVS PB1-ISD, and the system is really outstanding.
I have never heard the Take 5 system at home, but I have heard them at a store. They are good speakers, but the Axiom/SVS combo really should be at another level. The Take 5's are small satellite speakers, which would not be able to keep up with the Axioms in terms of output, midrange, bass, etc. And the SVS should definitely be a big upgrade from the Energy sub.

Upgrade would be putting it mildly. That Axiom combo would literally blow you away.

I just got my axoims, same as the set of spkrs ur planning but with a hsu stf-1 sub. The M22's midrange clarity is to be heard to be believed. My wife and me watched lord of the rings - Part 1
last night between -30db and -25db.....we did not miss a thing in terms of sound track. The clarity at low volumes is very pleasing to the ear.
The sound envelope created by QS8 will really impress you.
The opening scene where frodo is reading a book in the Shire, birds chirping, the theme playing in the background, Gandolf comes along in a cart singing.....the speakers proved their worth.
Iam very happy that I went with axioms. Believe me, you wont be disappointed.

Haha..I've never seen such an easy sell here. Most of us hang out and absord for a while before making the plunge. Be sure to let us know about your buying experience and also feedback on the speakers.

M1: Congrats, hope you love them
X94: I am one of the conflicted that have been agonizing over the decision. I have been trying to decide between Monitor Audio Silver series and the Axioms, maybe I need to just do it...

MikeM,
To lessen your agonizing, here's something to consider: As a veteran of many years of double-blind speaker comparisons for A/V magazines I edited and wrote for, occasionally there would be two speakers within a group that were so close in sound quality and numerical rankings, that I would often write down on our rating sheets, "similarly good."
Sometimes, slight preferences emerged depending on which musical selection we listened to, but in the end, the similarly good speakers would garner scores separated by as little as one-tenth of a point. This was not a statistically significant difference.
I have not A/B'd the Monitor Audio Silvers (I heard them in a demo) with our best Axioms but Monitor Audio has built some very nice speakers over the last 5 years, although at quite a premium in price. (In contrast, early MA speakers a decade ago were pretty awful.)
